Lets me utilize more of the potential of my UHD TV

Love the fact that this supports 4K tv and I can access so many more 4K programs now on my UHD TV including youtube which my 4K TV did not have the youtube VP9 decoder for UHD. Easy setup and access. Beautiful picture on my 65 inch UHD tv.

I went for the ROKU 4 for the support of my 4K TV. It worked beautifully up till the day it stopped nearly 8 months later. However, Roku provided me with a brand new unit as a swap!

Streams channels as advertised

This device is great for streaming the loaded channels and any added channels that you might want to subscribe. Picture quality is good using an ethernet connection with 100 mbps internet service. My only complaint is almost none of the channels stream in Dolby Digital. I get DD on Netflix (probably premium movie channels, like HBO, if I subscribed). But NBC Sports, CBS All Access, CNN, etc., all standard sound broadcast. I'm sure this isn't Roku's downfall, but these channels should be in DD if I'm paying a subscription for them.

Poor Design Decision Mars Otherwise Great Player

Pro: everything you know and love about Roku, just turned up to '11'. 4K, faster processor, etc.
Con: no HDR support. While it's understandable Roku would skip paying for a Dolby license, the lack of HDR10 support (a free, industry standard) is beyond excusable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Overall good product

Overall satisfied with the product although the user interface feels pretty dated. Hitting check boxes nowadays seems like something from the past. Also when connecting an external drive to watch movies or photos makes you have to enter in many different menus before actually getting to the content. I would prefer that it would index all the items and see it available with artwork instead of folder icons. Other than that thought the hardware works great and for general streaming from the apps are crisp after investing a bit of time in the setup.

I wanted Roku for my favorite channel Acorn, but there are so many great channels offered including my church channel. I'm very happy.
