I replaced my Roku-3 with a Roku-4 July 28, 2016 and was amazed at the improvements. The UHD feature is terrific and I'm hooked on the 4K content that Roku-4 organizes for me. It even seems to connect to the router faster and there is never buffering type hesitation when watching 4K content. The voice activated commands work as advertised. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied with the Roku-4.

BEWARE... unless you have an amplifier/av receiver that supports Dolby D+ you're going to be stuck with stereo audio only on most of the content, as this is what the newer content is bundled with and it doesn't scale down to Dolby Digital or Dolby D HD
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We bought the Roku 4 for its features as an upgrade for the Roku 3. We didn't think it would make much difference speed wise, but it did. We really like it.

Great for 4K TVs!

I switched from my good 'ol trusty AppleTV to this after purchasing a 4K TV recently, and boy oh boy am I glad I did! Don't get me wrong, the AppleTV is great, but it's missing some things that are important to me, namely Amazon Prime content, PSVue, and the ability to stream 4K with certain apps and programs (Netflix, Prime, etc). I was also surprised by how much I actually like the remote on this, it's nice that I can say the name of a show and the Roku will find it for me without me having to search thru all the different apps. Downside to the remote is the placement of the "enter" button, it should be in the middle of the "up down left and right" like it is on other Roku remotes and not underneath it. Here's a list of Pros: Ease of use, set up, options, amount of content, voice search (just speak clearly, even more clearly than you would to Siri), and 4K abilities. Cons: Limited options for 5.1 sound to a slightly older receiver. This part actually baffles me and some critics have said the same, why can't this thing pass 5.1 sound thru the optical audio port to a receiver that is only about 5 years old? I have the HDMI hooked to the TV (because my current Yamaha receiver can't pass 4K signals) and the audio hooked up to the receiver via the optical. I've never ever had any device that can't put out 5.1 sound via optical. There are a few options for sound on the Roku, but I either get no sound at all or 2.0. (Note: there is a 13 page conversation regarding this issue on the Roku forums, with no resolve to date). Other than that this thing is awesome! Oh, and to save you a bit of money, if you do not have a 4K TV, just get the Roku 3!

I upgraded from a Roku 3 so I could steam 4K content for a new 4K UHD TV I recently purchased. Excellent results so far, very pleased with the product.

Buggy HDMI Connectivity
on August 10, 2016

I've had a Roku 2 (older version) for about 5 years and been very happy with it. I bought it refurbished so price-wise was very reasonable. It's still humming along but I noticed with some of the newer streaming apps it has started to slow down; so I figured why not upgrade to the latest and greatest?
So I purchased a Roku 4. It was a bit larger than I expected but what the heck. Out of the box it installed flawlessly and performance was great; vastly improved over my older roku 2.
Unfortunately it repeatedly lost connectivity to my Bravia television; which meant that after it would go to sleep; while the roku would wakeup - it did not re-establish HDMI connectivity to my TV; which was only resolved by rebooting the Roku.
Needless to say this was annoying; and Roku's support while responsive was not helpful - their suggestion was to basically try it with another TV. Not helpful guys.
So I returned it and replaced it with a newer Roku 2 which is faster and does not suffer this bug in the Roku 4. Overall I would recommend the newer Roku 2 but cannot recommend the Roku 4.
