Unstable HDMI Connection
on January 30, 2016

I really like the new features and asthetics of my new Roku 4. However, the unstable HDMI connection is a deal breaker. I know my HDMI cord(s) and or HDMI ports are not the problem. I have tested several cords with each of my ports with other devices and they all have stable connections. When I use my new Roku 4 and then change the source input to another HDMI port (for live tv, chromecast etc.), and then back to my Roku 4, I ALWAYS get no connection error. In other words, the Roku 4 is not showing up for the HDMI port that it is connected in. I have searched the Roku home site and the internet for a solution. There doesn't appear to be one. My Roku 3 does not have this problem. I have tested in on the same tvs and ports and with the same cords that my Roku 4 has the issues.

Easy to set up---But

This Roku-4 is very easy to set up if you are just connecting to a TV. In my case I have a recviever sending out my audio but my reciever does not have HDMI ports-- but the Roku-4 does have an Optical port so I was able to make an audio connection-- just needed to purchase a optical cable. Also the voice command for searching is outstanding not to mention the headphone jack in the remote. I now can watch Loud Movies late at night or early am without bothering anyone.Plus I can move around with the remote and headphones on and not have to worry that someone will trip over headphone wires on the floor.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No 5.1

No 5.1 sound if going to anything but a stereo. I use a hdmi switcher and no 5.1 at all that way. PS 3 works fine with Dolby streaming with same set up. Direct to receiver does give 5.1. Will not play movies from home sever. Very limited format decoding. Does have a bunch of channels. 4k is not as sharp as 1080 with a js9500. 1080p is sharp as a tack. I prefer 1080 for Netflix amazon ect. Things may change in time.

Problem with Netflix Dolby+ with Optical Out

Loses HDMI sync with Ethernet HDMI balun connected to my Sony 4K projector requiring a reboot of the player everytime I want to use it.
Also, I was hoping that Roku will add a simple feature like converting D+ to D when sending to Optical out. Instead all we get is Stereo. As a result we have a perfect player that can only play 4K movies from Netflix in stereo. How funny is that.

I had hoped to have a single solution in this, and that is not the case. The streaming from Netflix, Amazon, etc. seems to work fine, but I also have a lot of video files I wanted to send from my computer to my TV, and Roku does not handle this well. They only accept two video formats, and I can't get either of them to work. And since most of my existing videos are *.avi files, which Roku will not support, I need to keep looking for a better solution.

Turned my old TV into a 4K TV!

I already owed 5 Roku 3 and 1 Roku stick. I really loved the Roku 3, but the stick was a waste of money, it would buffer all day. The Roku 4 enhanced the picture quality on my TV, it is crystal clear with true to life colors. I also love all the channels that Roku offers, new ones are constantly coming out. Watching YouTube on our TV is a definite bonus.
