Great idea, not quite there yet!

I bought the Roku4 to connect with my 65" 4K Vizio TV and to replace my cable set top box. On paper the Roku4 fits this, but in reality it falls short. To begin with the wireless connection wasnt good enough to disply non-4k content without dropping and that led to ultimately upgrading my entire network (router, cable modem). Once upgraded it still didnt work well and now i have it wired to a high end extender. The problem now is the extender seems to be interfering with the remote functionality that forced me to a android solution on an old samsung S2 phone. This works but isnt the best option. And finally, after all of this i get P707 connection errors that says my content isnt avail. Although my cable provider still works i am not sure the cause. If i wait for about 1hr and then it works again.

Spectacular Picture Quality

I "cut the cord" of my cable company and bought a Roku 4. I chose the 4 because of its optical audio output, as my receiver can't get audio via HDMI. I was not expecting an improvement in picture quality with my 1080p projector vs the LG Blu-Ray player I'd previously been using for streaming, but the difference is astounding - I feel like I have new eyes! The UI is way better than that of the Blu-Ray player as well. The RF remote (no pointing) is great and the voice search works pretty well.
Only a few small negatives:
1) I wish the remote had a "Stop" button. You have to back your way out of a program with the Back button instead. I suppose I'll get used to it.
2) I don't care for the corporate logos on the remote. This thing is part of my living room décor and I find these logos very intrusive. I can easily find Netflix or Amazon via the on-screen navigation; these buttons could have been put to better use or omitted from the remote.
3) Backlighting of the remote would have been nice.
4) Cross-channel search is incomplete. I searched for "Inspector Lewis" and came up with almost no results, but going directly to PBS (I think) yielded a whole bunch of hits.

Haven't paid a cable bill in 4 years

I have 4 rokus and it's important that I can contain, and monitor what my kids have access to. I certainly don't miss spending an hour finding something to watch, as I now have the ability to be precisely selective for the content I want. Gaming is surprisingly useful, and the (find my remote) feature gets used everyday.

We originally had a Roku 3 and were very happy with it but when our house burned down we hurried to buy a new unit. The Roku 4 was available so we bought it. The picture is amazing and it wasn't hard to transfer our apps and programs from the 3. We love this product so much we even got rid of cable because there is so much content to watch for free.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome product - but no "Off" button??? Serious?

In this day and age where most people are energy conscious, coupled with the fact this unit gets VERY warm (indicating large power draw), I am simply shocked that the remote has no 'off' power button. So, I use the app to turn it off.
Roku claims that the unit will anticipate your streaming habits and pre-buffer your next episode of your favorite Netflix shows for you. It doesn't do that. There is a pre-buffer EVERY time. No biggy though, not a deal breaker for me.
For the 2 reasons above I give 4 stars, instead of 5.
Other than that, this machine ROCKS! It is very content rich, and millions of REALLY COOL features. I will be discovering things for years to come. I'm addicted! The Roku 4 far surpasses the features of my not-so-"Smart TV".
A headphone port on the remote??? SERIOUSLY??? Oh my it works SOOOO GOOOOD!!! GENIUS!!! This feature (along with the 'remote finder' and the 'point anywhere') were the deciding factors for me to buy a Roku instead of one of the other 3 competing options (Amazon, Google, Apple versions).
Good work Roku engineers!

It operates the same as my stick and Roku 3. I love the 4K movies that are available older channels and I don't have to buy new subscriptions to enjoy the features. It's fantastic
