I bought a Roku five months ago and I'm really glad I made this decision because my mom can see any show she wants from back home

This DOG Won't Hunt

I'm a big fan of Roku. I have 4 of them - 1 of them now being the Roku 4. Did I say BIG fan? Because the Roku 4 has a BIG fan that seems to never shut off & is VERY LOUD. Because the Roku 4 seems to run hot. It's also BIG. The Roku 4 is BIG. Quite a slab of hot plastic. The only reason to get one is for your 4K UHD TV, right? But for whatever reason, contrary to Roku's hype, the Roku 4 is very slow in its search routines - especially when I'm jumping around on YouTube, rdio, etc trying to stream that favorite music video. I can't figure that one out. Ya buy it for your top of the line 4K UHD TV, and it bogs down searching It's not just that it's slow. It bogs down and locks up while searching. Plus there are slight digital skips in movies that I never had before. Throughout. And I just switched from a Roku 3. NEVER had the issue before. At this stage, I don't know whether to await a software update, or send it back while Roku figures out the next 4K model. A software update will not fix the fan nor the GINORMOUS SIZE. I trust Roku and previously used a Roku 3 on the same TV. Just fine! But the Roku 4 is an absolute D-O-G.

Bought this device and the fan became loud after a couple of days. Product rates poorly as this ruins it.

Needs further improvement

As an owner of 3 older models of Roku products, this one is the most unreliable. Unit will shutdown unexpectedly requiring to cycle power in order to operate, this problem started within the first week after purchase. In addition, the process to format the memory card required numerous attempts in order to finalize it. My impression is that the software needs further refinement, just hope that future software upgrades will make it more reliable.

Roku4 doesn't perform as well as my old Roku XLs

I've now had 2 Roku 4's and they have both been a disappointment. First constantly stopped and was reloading content. Second doesn't do it as much, but still does. If I swap old Roku XLs in place of a Roku 4, they work just fine. Very disappointed in the Roku 4. Would not recommend. Seems like there are still bugs to be worked out on these.

Doesn't work with Sharp 4K TV's

Own a Sharp Aquos 4K TV... Purchased 2 Roku 4's same issue... When setting the display settings to 4K or 4K (10bit) you get intermittent purple flashes periodically on the screen whether you watch a program or simply have it sitting there on the Roku homepage. I've heard this described as a "handshake" issue between the device and the tv but whatever... doesn't work with sharp 4k TV's when setting the display setting to 4K. A search on this shows countless sharp tv owners experiencing the exact same thing. Returned both products.

I already own the Roku 3 and just bought the 4, Fantastic picture and so many channels to choose from and with Plex installed it just gets better and better.

Fast loading, but no surround system

I bought the Roku 4 thinking it would offer the latest and greatest means of streaming movies. The video quality is fantastic, but the 5.1 surround sound is very limited and mostly non-existent. There is no 5.1 surround sound on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Showtime and just about everything, except for HBO GO. This is a major disappointment where it doesn't make much sense to have great video quality, but without the great surround sound to go with it. That being the case, I have to say it was a waste of the money I spent.
