It works all the time.

Forget 4k, forget the huge lineup of apps, forget the awesome remote, forget the sleek exterior... forget it all. The most important thing about this piece of hardware is that it works all the time. Most "smart" tech including my Chromecast and the apps bundled on my TV have such poor performance that getting them to work is a gamble. It is sad that in this day and age something reliably working is so highly valued but now I feel I can actually unwind and not have to battle crashes, delays, buffering, and a whole host of problems with other gadgets. So the best thing about this is that it reliably works all the time.

Good but not for 4K at this moment

I recently purchased a new 4K TV and bought the Roku 4 thinking I would get a great quality UHD experience from the few videos available. To my surprise the Roku 4 will NOT even let you go to 4K unless the whole HDMI chain supports HDCP 2.2 (which most 4K TVs from the past two years do not). I understand that you need to have HDCP support for protected content but you should be at least able to watch unprotected content like Youtube and your own media. Instead the Roku 4 will not even show you a 4K menu screen. So do not buy a Roku 4 unless you are absolutely sure your TV supports HDCP 2.2 or you will be disappointed. I basically have an expensive Roku 3.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Promise: Many Launch Problems

I'd been waiting a long time for the Roku 4 to replace my older Roku 3. Out of the box it was faster, offered more content, 4k capable. But there were many problems such as remote loosing connection, DD+ audio not working, 10bit video issues, fan noise. Roku has resolved some but not all of these issues. They could have also improved the remote to include volume and TV power over HDMI but didn't. Overall still my daily streaming box but may move to another brand if they don't rapidly fix the unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great for traveling

I spend a lot of time in hotels and don't like the pay per view, it is a rip, and regular TV isn't convenient' I want what I want when I want it. Well, the Roku 4 is the answer. Just download a public domain virtual router, set it up with you own secure wifi connection. Connect with the Roku and you are good to go. The buffering works great and there are very few if any skips.

The unit itself is A great gateway to make your TV a smart TV. I bought this over Apple because it allowed 4K streaming for a few shows. I was disappointed with the quality of the 4K stream. I honestly could not tell the difference between HD and 4K. My Internet connection is 75/75. So as long as you're not buying this solely for 4K quality then this is a good purchase.

I Bought this about 3 weeks ago. Set it up a week later. This is by far the Best Roku player yet. :) Fast, Feature rich, Easy to set up and use. Love ALL the channels that are available. Plus can play all my movies and music from my phone and computer right too my roku box.

Had it for a week now only issue that I have is every time it turns itself off I have to unplug it to get it to respond tu turn itself back on using the remote. If Roku would make a way to turn this device on and off like a tv using the remote it would be perfect to me.

I can't find an App that doesn't work on the Roku 4! It has everything I need! I set it up on my Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote with every feature I need!
