A confusing machine

I couldn't wait to get a top-loader without a big agitator taking up so much space. This is the machine I got---I wouldn't buy it again. No matter what TEMP button I push, the clothing is hot at the end of the cycle. Tonight when I was rinsing dishes, I realized the water heater was depleted from washing two king-sized beds' sheets, blankets and a mattress pad. So much moisture is removed that it's like a steam roller went over everything. Usually, a little shaking will get the stuff ready to go into the dryer--but, every last thing is so compacted, I get a workout shaking out a few pairs of underpants! One really weird occurrence happens when "bulky items" are in there. I washed a king-mattress pad by itself on "bulky." At the end of the cycle, there appeared to be fibery mud scattered around in patches that couldn't be rubbed off. I ran it through again---still there, and still there after drying. It seems this machine has a bunch of features that the user has to figure out a way to fight against or disable just to get clean laundry. Today, I had a mixed load in it (lightweight fleece blankets and some miscellaneous stuff) when I heard an incredibly loud clatter going on in the other end of the house. I had the spin set on "normal"--had it been on high, I am certain it would have broken itself, the dryer or something else in the room--cabinetry or ?? I had to hit pause, let the poor thing calm down and come to a complete stop so that the door would open to allow me to rearrange the load. It took four tries for that. Seems that the only way to get everything wet is to use the "clean basket" feature, then set it to spin when it's finished. This is a machine that requires too much thinking on the part of the user.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lots of Choices

This was delivered/installed a little over a month ago and the washer works really well. There are a lot of choices for the types of laundry you are washing, the water temperature and the amount of spin. It washed out a stain real well without doing a pre-soak. I like the clear lid, sometimes I watch the machine do it's thing for a few minutes. The only thing I would change is the volume selection notifying you when the laundry is done - it needs to be louder.

This GE washer is all one would want is an inexpensive washer that has all the bells and whistles that most of the other models have for far more money. I'm super satisfied with my new washer---Thank you GE
