Large Capacity & See-Through Lid v Quirks

This digital washer's capacity is fantastic! Learning to navigate the machine (& it's manual), a bit less. I had to do some online research, just to figure out how to use the bleach process correctly. In old machine, bleach could only be dispensed in "whites" cycle. With this machine, the manual instructs on how to put the bleach INTO the machine - as many complain it's cuplike port causes bleach to splash out onto clothes in the machine. GE suggests putting clothes in after dispensing bleach to remedy - BUT they do not say which cycle to use the bleach. Well, that answer is: any cycle. Bleach additive goes down tube between the basket & wall; it dilutes out as water fills the basket. It is also recommended to use the Deep Rinse Cycle for bleach. GE, please take note & update your manual accordingly.
Another fyi: if machine is not in use (off), anytime you lift the lid, machine will turn on - using the last cycle used. It's annoying to tap the power button off if not ready to use it.
Also note, the Deep Fill action only works in three cycles on the board. I like that I could set each cycle to my own liking, figuring out which ones the Deep Fill worked with was a mystery at first, but it works great now.
My first wash was a set of queen size sheets and a duvet cover. It was too much for the cycle I'd set it for, so, watch out if your loads are set wrong. It will twist everything together so tight, it'll take some effort to untwist them. I had to remove the duvet cover, and set the sheets to spin/drain. Ditto for the duvet. Lesson learned!
I like the machine, it washes well all while using less water. It's nice to see into the basket while it is washing. If at any time I think it needs more water - as long as it's in a cycle that will allow - I pause the wash, push the deep fill button, close the lid & restart.
I would recommend the GTW680BSJ7WS GE Washing Machine.

LEAVES PASTY RESIDUE ON DARK CLOTHES
on January 12, 2020
Posted by: MALOSA
from NY
I had this washer for several months now. It leaves an ugly grey to white pasty residue especially on black clothes. I have used different types of detergent (all HE) and nothing changes. I know it uses a minimum amount of water, but my old washer used a normal amount and performed much better. I have to return it. Do not make the mistake of purchasing this washer.
