Only had it 5 yrs!
on September 25, 2024
Posted by: TanyaD1128
We’ve had this washer for 5 years and today I heard a loud noise and a bunch of metal like substance under the agitator. Removed to see the metal wash plate underneath has shattered. This is unacceptable. So frustrated with GE. After 5 years?!!?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

7 year life span

Lasted 7 years. Warranty pays for the parts, but not the labor. Has a ten year “limited” warranty.

We understand the importance of an appliance operating as designed for an extended amount of time. However, it is not possible to determine the product failure rate, lifespan, life expectancy, or life cycle of an appliance. There are multiple variables involved such as frequency of use, type of use, location of appliance, care, and maintenance.

Buttons are faulty

6 years in, the push buttons barely work any more. Only the power and pause buttons work, and even that takes a lot of pushes.

Poor performance - buyers remorse
on October 28, 2024

The washer was always “just ok” to “below average”. Balance has always been an issue. You have to place the clothes carefully along the walls of the washer — you can’t just drop the clothes in. About 5 years in, it has a number of issues and we are getting a replacement already. The most bothersome is the weak spin. Clothes are so wet that it takes 2 or 3 dryer cycles to fully dry. Sometimes we do a separate spin after a 60 minute wash cycle. Laundry takes forever. We have resorted to washing small Loads only in order to improve the spin. There is also a constant mildew smell as mentioned by other reviewers, despite our best cleaning efforts. Our clothes now have an odor too - ick. I have never had these issues with any other washer. Truly disappointing. 3 of our 5 GE appliance needed service in the first 2 or 3 years. Appliances should be more durable than that. GE is not what it used to be.

We understand the importance of an appliance operating as expected. It is not abnormal to have to wash smaller loads to help with the balancing and spinning of the unit. We have provided some cleaning instructions at the link below and on page 19 of the Owner's Manual at the link here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--Oo5WgtXj--/bp1mjtmv6vaa0zz812ww.pdf?_ga=2.37467104.1359288998.1730130486-507723860.1707936747
These tips will help with the odor you are experiencing.

Bad design

I’m regretting buying this machine. For the first year I was very happy with it! But then it started to stink like mildew! After many clean cycles with bleach, vinegar, and the afresh pods… I still have a smelly machine. I’ve realized when I push the basin around, I hear water sloshing inside of the ring at the top-This is where the water comes out when a load is filling up. There is always water trapped inside of this ring. Even if I’ve let the washer sit for a few days! Sadly, I’ve had to boil, or do vinegar soaks of many clothing items that I don’t want to throw away. I’ve thrown away many pieces that won’t let go of the mildew smell which is incredibly frustrating. So not only has it ruined loads of clothes, but my laundry room always smells like mildew. And of course at this point I’m out of warranty but I really don’t want to have to buy a new machine. I feel this machine is poorly designed and I don’t recommend taking the risk of buying this one.

We'd like to assist you with your washer and the mildew smell. We recommend referring to the troubleshooting in the links below:
When you hear a sloshing sound when you move the inner tub, that is the balance ring. This is an enclosed plastic container partially filled with a salt water solution, it is attached to the inner clothes basket, and allows the basket to spin smoothly should an out of balance situation occur. This is a normal sound.

after 7 years of use, it quit working. Any of the cycles responded. I prefer the analog type of machine, these digital/electronic ones don't last long.
