A washer that can’t.

Have owned this machine (GTW680BSJ4WS), for nine years. It’s the best spin-dry machine ever, but washing performance is very poor and rinsing is worse. Loads of clothes are left in knots, and some areas never get washed.
Trying to wash sheets requires removing them after washing and again after the rinse cycle to untie the tight knots from each other… and then to drape them evenly around the tub to have enough balance for spin out.
Having worked as a product development engineer for almost 40 years I use this machine as an object lesson in poor design and not very good manufacturing when I teach at the college level. Students seem to understand.
I do much of my laundry in the sink, as it’s faster, with better results… and then use the great spin-dry to minimize drying time (in the venerable old dryer).
I bought the machine after owning my GE dryer for an earlier 30 years. It was well designed, easy to service and very dependable.
I didn’t know that GE had forgotten how to design a good appliance.
It’s a certainty that the designers of this machine never tried doing laundry with it before putting it into production. Or maybe they were asleep…
I’ll never recommend GE for appliances.

Piece of junk! We were desperate to get a new washer when our washer broke down during Covid. We should have done better research and spent an extra $100 for a better quality washer and dryer. Whats wrong with it....everything! Hinge on washer lid crumbled to pieces, does not get your clothes clean, does not spin out the water when going through spin cycle, balance is off and I don't over load the machine!!!! Plus more!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We purchased our GE appliances about 7 years ago. I loved GE appliances. My grandmother used GE appliances, my mother used GE qappliances, and my son works for GE.

Fell apart

The water valve started leaking intermittently at 3 yrs, the top started rusting by the bleach cup around the same time. I just noticed that the stainless basket is rusting at the top edge. We bought this 'caus 'merikan made. We are gunna go see what the Koreans have to offer.
