Not as good as my old G.E. dryer

I absolutely loved my old G.E. dryer. When I needed a new washing machine, though, my husband convinced me to give my dryer away so I could get a matching new washer and dryer set. I opted for G.E. again, since I was happy with all the G.E. appliances I've owned, especially my dryer. I wish I would have known at the time of purchase that G.E. Appliances had quietly been acquired by a Chinese company (which would likely have been a red flag to me that G.E.'s quality standards had become lower than they once were). As it turned out, I can't stand my new G.E. washer, but this matching dryer model is at least tolerable. I am, however, disappointed that it seems like a cheapened version of my previous dryer, and I have to keep setting timers to "babysit" my dryer. Allow me to explain...
1. Although I love that the lint screen is just inside the door (which helps me remember to clean it often), I hate that it's so small. I have to set timers to remind myself to check the lint filter every 10 minutes or so when the dryer is running, since it's so small and quickly becomes overloaded with lint. My laundry otherwise takes much longer to dry if I don't do this, and globs of lint immediately fall to the floor when the dryer door is opened. Some of the clumps of lint even fall way down inside the lint trap compartment as well. The opening the lint trap sits in is too narrow for even my thin hands to fit in far enough to retrieve the fallen lint that drops down inside. I have to loop a piece of packing tape (sticky side out) over the end of a ruler every few days to reach down in and "mop up" any loose lint I see before it permanently falls completely out of my (ruler's) reach. I imagine if a lot of lint ends up falling beyond my reach, moisture released from the dryer will cause some of the lint to ultimately get stuck to the inside of the flexible (accordion-type) dryer hose that directs the heat outside, and will impede my dryer's performance.

2. The door closure latch on this dryer is a pressure-fit design, with a tab that seems a bit too wide to fit into the hole. My husband said he could use pliers to compress the end of the tab, but if it ended up being too small to remain snugly in the hole, he wouldn't be able to make it wider again. So I usually have to slam the door (sometimes multiple times) in order to get the door to latch and stay shut. For this reason, I don't usually do laundry late at night or early in the morning when other family members might be sleeping. What's worse, getting the door open is even harder than closing it. I actually need to open it with both hands in order to avoid hurting my wrist. I really don't think I should have to worry about injuring myself from opening the door of my clothes dryer!
3. Unlike my old G.E. dryer, this new one has no light inside to illuminate it. I now have to turn on my laundry room light whenever I retrieve clothes from my dryer.
4. I'm not sure why, but sheets and blankets almost immediately end up in a tight ball in this dryer, so I have to keep removing them and opening them back up. It takes much longer to dry them in this dryer than my previous ones for this reason (and even longer if I fail to clean the lint trap often, of couse).
All in all, it's an okay dryer; my 4-star rating is a bit generous, though, since I wasn't able to rate it 3 1/2 stars due to it's cheapened features. I do still miss my old G.E. dryer, though, which set the bar high and was a solid 5 stars in my book. I would probably only recommend this dryer to a friend if they couldn't find (or afford) something better. Maybe other manufacturers haven't cheapened their appliances as much as G.E. has.

Faulty switch alignment defect

Our new dryer is eady to use and does a great job, only reason I gave it a 3 is because the switch on the door is faulty new out of box and it turns off at any point during a load or we have to hit tve door fir it to come on seems quality control is lacking.

Got a new washing machine with a bigger drum and needed a new dryer to match capacity. I haven't had it long, but so far have had no problems drying the clothes on the first run. Slim and fits in a tiny space easily.
