Disappointed

I've been a huge fan of Bose products for over 25 years. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed in a Bose device. The SA5 amp seems to need repeated setups for no apparent reason. I've grown accustomed to repeating the setup procedure whenever I know that we're going to be needing the system. But recently (2/18) an update was pushed out and I am no longer able to even complete the setup procedure. The screen where I enter my wifi name and password simply *flashes* past before I can add any input. I've done this *dozens* of times with no change... starting to feel a bit insane at this point because I'm hoping for a different outcome. As it currently stands I have an expensive, non-functioning sound system.

Fell short of my expectations

The SoundTouch SA-5 has great sound. But is very lacking in sound control. Desperately needs separate speaker control and needs control of range of sound. Need to be able to control A and B volumes separately and more bass control would be a great improvement. The only tone control on the app is the ability to reduce the bass. No way to turn it up. Bass is way too low at reduced volumes. To really get a good bass effect. The volume has to be too loud for comfortable listening.

Great but...

Really good product, but there should be the possibility to run speakers A and speaker B differently (e.g. one switched off, the other switched on or one volume at 8, the other one volume at 5). For such an expensive amplifier, this should allowed by the app.

I like it but can I get an upgrate?

The unit works as advertised but like others I was disappointed to find that the A and B speakers cannot operate independently and I had to buy an additional switch to accomplish this. Seems just lazy and is a bit misleading. Also a solid user manual for the controller app should be included with the unit. After downloading the app. I re-initiallized the speakers several times. It took me a bit of time to figure out that this only appears to be the case when you try to "play everywhere" before you have picked a source for one unit and then used that unit as a the basis for "play everywhere". I see at least one reviewer has been put of the product by this. A good set of instructions would help.

Nice idea but with big issues.

We've had an SA5 for 4 months now. The first set up was a breeze. It only took 3 or 4 minutes. Unfortunately every single time we want to use it again the thing needs to be set up again... from scratch. There is no way for this device to hold the set up information past a nights sleep. We no longer use it 80% of the time in order to avoid doing the 3 minute set up procedure. I tried connecting it through ethernet to avoid this issue, but the manual will not go through this procedure and it's been impossible to detect the network when wired. Why can't a device released in 2015 hold log in and password for a WiFi for more than a couple of hours is beyond me but it extremely limits the appeal of this device. On a separate note, it's ridiculous that it would not come with an option to run A and B zones independently. To avoid blasting my neighbors with music in the patio I continuously have to unplug the wires for a zone. .. ridiculous.... too many issues for a high end amplifier. Not worth the buy until they sort all these kinks out.

Poor SoundTouch App

I’ve always loved Bose products. Just upgraded to Lifestyle 650 for Home Theater and love it. Bought Quiet Comfort headphones for myself and wife and love them. Bought SA5 to power some poolside speakers. When it works it sounds great. But whatever their paying programmers for SoundTouch app it is too much. This app just plain sux. Says no WiFi connection periodically. But phone is showing good WiFi. Discovered that when I turn off cellular data I have no problem connecting to WiFi. I installed app on wife’s phone and that really messes things up. When I log off her phone I have to reinstall speakers on my phone. C’mon Bose. If you can’t build a reliable app then give me a Bluetooth remote. It is extremely frustrating dealing with this everyday. And I’m an IT professional. Can’t imagine frustration of your customers

Hello DougV,

I am so happy to hear you are such a loyal Bose customer, that's quite a range of products you have. The SA-5 Amplifier is a great addition to the family, and I'm glad to hear you are loving it.

In regards to a few of the issues you are having, as SoundTouch runs on wifi, sometimes your phone can use 'Wifi Assist' mode when connecting to something incase your signal drops. This may be what is causing issues as it is then preventing the app from connecting to your network, therefore your SA5.

I would urge you to follow some of the steps on this page: https://bit.ly/33rjRhD to rectify any connection issues, specifically referring to updating your system and intermittent or poor Wi-Fi network connection.

Of course, if you still need help after that one of our customer service team would love to help you. As well as calling up you can reach us on Facebook or Twitter for your convenience.

Kind Regards,
Tori Mae - Customer Support

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I added this to our sun touch family in our house and absolutely love it it powers two of our Bose outdoor speakers and it is exactly what we needed to complete our audio experience! It’s extremely clean sound and intuitive app that helps you run it in a stereo pair or mono... love this amp!!!
