Confident this was a good decision

We have a galley style kitchen and had to have a cabinet depth white refrigerator. This replaced a GE profile that was 22 years old and still working. We have had this new one for about 4 months now and no issues. The unit is very quiet and holds a surprising amount of food. I only have a couple of minor complaints. I am not crazy about the single light inside the unit. It is quite large and right in the middle of the top of the unit. This light is blocked to the lower shelves if anything is placed on the upper shelf. A better design would have been to place the light along the sides or multiple lights at the rear of the shelves.
Second issue is that when I purchased the unit I felt compelled to buy the extended warranty from the seller. I was leery of this since they do not have an in house service department and would have to sublet any repairs. There are tons of reviews out there for ANY model of refrigerator that have horror stories of major repairs that were needed soon after purchase. Based on this I purchased the extended warranty but was disappointed to get a offer to purchase an extended warranty directly from GE about a month after purchase. I would have much preferred to buy the warranty from GE but I didn't find out about it until it was too late.
Fortunately the unit has had no issues and feel confident this was a good purchase. It was not cheap but for us it was worth the money.
I would recommend this to a friend!

We Chose The Wrong Fridge.

I am a loyal GE customer, but I made a mistake on this one, and it is my own fault. We replaced our old GE fridge we loved because it had started leaking. It was 16 years old, and had served us well. There is nothing wrong with this model as far as how it runs, but the arrangement inside is just awful. I was used to baskets in the freezer, but this one has shelves. Fine if you eat a lot of boxed food, but we do not. The water that comes out of the dispenser in the door is not chilled, like we were used to. In the refrigerator section there only two drawers, not three as we were used to, and the second drawer is only half a drawer. We eat lots of fresh produce, so this doesn't work for us. The shelves in this configuration can only be adjusted up or down for half of the height of the fridge. This left a large "cavern" below, where there are no shelves and no way to add a shelf. I tried buying stacking bins, but that really doesn't work because there is only one light in the entire fridge and it is pretty dark by the time you get to the "cavern" (where they could have put another drawer). I think this might be a good fridge for people who don't eat a lot of fresh produce and don't have a lot of leftovers. In other words, who don't cook much and store frozen pizzas and frozen veggies in the freezer. I wish GE would let me return this model and let me buy another more expensive one that we could use, but I know I cannot expect that.

STUPID FEATURE MAKES IT A BAD FEATURE!

At the bottom of the freezer & refrigerator doors, a plastic rod protrudes to prevent each door from closing, intervening to cause a spring-back action similar to that of the spring attached to the head of a Jack-in-the-box toy. Therefore, rather than easing into a soft-close as all refrigerator doors in my decades of experience have done, the door/doors remain ajar unless a heftier push is applied. Although a 'door-ajar' alarm is amongst the features of this model, if leaving home in a rush as I often do, the alarm is useless as it cannot be heard over the distance covered between the time of departure and the start of the alarm sound. This is also the case when scurrying out of the kitchen to head to the bathroom and/or bedroom (where the alarm also cannot be heard). I cannot imagine a purpose for or benefit from this motion-halting rod, which to me seems a malfunction. There is no feature to prevent either door from OVER-extending into the adjacent cupboard, which I could understand the purpose of(!). I've learned this is 'normal' on my particular model (but not other GE models!!). The unit is otherwise useful as intended--to freeze and/or refrigerate foods. The external cavity of the water/ice dispensing unit (where one would insert a glass or bottle for holding filtered water or ice) could be somewhat longer from top-to-bottom to handle a taller vessel, but otherwise, is gorgeous and provides ample interior space for me as a single user.

Bought this based on recommendation from dealer . I was disappointed with the appearance of the refrigerator. The exposed screws on the door handles and the unfinished surface on the top of the doors made it look cheap and unfinished. w
Wide frames on the shelving inside limit storage space.

First of all the ice maker control for ice cubes "on or off" is not conveniently accessible. The ice bucket has to be removed removed to access the control.

We have had this fridge for a couple of months; thought it would work out; but so far it hasn't met expectations.

I was disappointed with available storage space so purchased an extra door shelf (online) and multiple storage containers. Now I'm comfortable with the unit. Our space and color choice really limited us on units to buy. Too bad!
