Good general purpose refrigerator/freezer

Our 16 year old side by side was having issues and we replaced it with this GE model which closely resembled what we had. We had size restrictions and this fit the bill. So far it is running well. It is a good thing there is an alarm which sounds when the door isn't closed because the door doesn't close as easily as our old one did and we wouldn't know it had not closed without the alarm. This is a good general purpose no-frills refrigerator/freezer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No space for pizza box

Works fine. Space is limite for pizza boxes. Water dispenser and ice maker are great.

I had to wait 2 months and prepaid a premium for white finish to match my other appliances. It replaced my 22-year-old GE which had a small door in the refrigerator side that fit a gallon of milk and two 64 oz soda bottles easily. My original also had more shelves and drawers. I especially miss the shallow cheese drawer from my original. 2 drawers are not enough for a fridge or are 2 shelves for a freezer. The new design requires stacking too much in both the freezer and refrigerator. The ice maker works well but it is a production to remove the container to empty it and the ice cubes are not accessible otherwise except thru the dispenser. The ice dispenser mechanism is plastic which seems weak. Additionally, the thin plastic film screwed to the underside of the ice container compartment does not keep ice shavings from the freezer shelf and the shoot outside gets coated with shavings and then they drip down once they melt. The entire ice maker system gets a D. The unit is quiet and temperatures in both the freezer and refrigerator hold well. I have had this unit running for 2 weeks now.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Why Poor Lighting?

One top light is not reasonable. When shelves are filled visibility is poor, especially lower veg and meat drawers. Does GE offer an option to add an LED light or two? Otherwise, the refrigerator is functioning well.

Great looking Refrigerator/Freezer

We love our new GE side by side refrigerator/freezer. We bought the stainless steel one and the look is nice and sleek. Also like the alarm on the refrigerator if left open after a period of time. It is spacious and bright in lighting.

Excellent Refrigerator for Your Home

We really love our new refrigerator. It is extremely quite. The ice maker is great. Our previous refrigerator did not have this feature and the GE refrigerator does. It makes getting ice a breeze. We also really like the open door warning feature.
