Hard to get around

Ever since we rec'd & installed, we have been trying to watch tv. We have not seen one thing in 2 or so weeks. Sling too. I already canceled sling! We disconnected & installed DTV.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought this to replace a 2 year old Roku that died. Every time I change source or turn off the tv I then get a purple screen with " unauthorized access". the only way to get the picture to show is to either unplug the Roku power, or unplug the hdmi cable and plug back in. It's kind of a pain to have to go to the player and do this every time, certainly not what I expected from a brand new device. And looking on the net, I'm far from the only one with this problem. Some reported curing this by replacing the hdmi cable, but in my case this didn't help either. I wouldn't recommend Roku to anyone after this experience.

Best on the market

Roku still offers the best smart TV interface on the market, with the best features and most channels. If you don't need the remote options the Roku 3 offers and still want fast performance, this is the one for you. Just wish it had a digital audio out like the Roku 4.

I think all the roku's I own from SE to roku 3 and all of them are excellent. you can watch free channels or download pay channels like cbs all access to hbo, netflix, hulu. alot of choices to watch what you want when you want to.

New Possibilties

My smart TV lost it's smarts so I bought the Roku 2 hoping mostly to be able to view my favorite movie provider that I already had an account with. It's The size of a hockey puck. Set up was simple. You do need a separate HDMI cord. It has everything else. You also have to create an account with Roku using paypal or a credit card. It is like Apple or Google and only used if you purchase items from the Roku store. There is an app that sets your phone up as a remote which is very nice. I've only had it a few weeks. It streams without interruption and has great clarity. I've just started to view all the options it offers as far as TV, music and movies. TONS of options, free and paid. I'm sure this will only increase as these devices become more popular. It is offering me some new possibilities for my TV/Movie providers. I'm am seriously thinking that it will be cheaper for me to subscribe to a few providers offered through Roku than what I currently pay to my cable provider. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants great streaming capability or some options for their TV/movie/music money.
