Not what I expected

I brought this a week ago and it did not meet my expectations. The main reason I purchased was to stream NBCSN and it would not play any live NASCAR events only show highlights. The rest of the shows I can get on my smart TV plus it would not play my movies on my external hard drive. Very disappointed so it went back.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I owned an older Roku . This new version is faster and doesn't seem to get as warm as my older version. Overall this little box rocks . Thanks for the quality

My fourth Roku, now a review on #4.

I just purchased a fourth Roku 2 because of Time Warner's July1st switch to all encrypted digital transmission, even for local channels making the TV QAM tuners useless. I had purchased three units last year and they all worked without problem.
My recent purchase of the latest version however has a problem with the handling of live broadcasting with the TWC channel. The image is not HD quality and barely 480i. Interestingly, the on-demand feature resolution is perfect. All the Rokus have the same version of the TWC update from May of this year. The older Roku 2's work exactly as expected in all the locations that the new unit will not.
I moved the new Roku to different location and different tv's with the same result. Terrible resolution on the live broadcasts. My solution to get the quality expected was to use the ethernet connection. Problem solved. However, wireless operation is not as good as in the older models as far as I can determine although Netflix, Vudu and others work fine wirelessly. Why the TWC app is having a problem with this new unit is not known.

I have had other media streaming devices in the past but finally made my move to Roku after hearing about all great features available through Roku and i can tell you i am sold and will be purchasing more Roku2 boxes for the rest of my TV'S in my home

Happy camper, but it doesn't stream reg/free Hulu

I have had my Roku 2 for about 2 weeks now. I am pretty happy with it and think I will find even more reasons to be happy with it with more use. I bought it so that I could retire an elderly laptop that was serving as my streaming computer. (We are also planning to downgrade our cable subscription due to loss of discount, poor programming, and overall high cost.) This Roku does all the streaming my laptop did and more--and much easier! It is a breeze to set up. The only thing Roku does not have that I expected it would have is the regular (free) Hulu account access. That is a shame--Why?!! I signed up for Amazon Prime free trial on the Roku and am planning to keep it. I/we are 40-something year-old former cord-cutters (before cutting was cool) and have had cable again now for only less than 5 years. This is a really good tool to include for streaming needs on a non-smart TV or for your cord-cutting solution tool box. One note that I would like to mention: I am seeing the purple "unauthorized content" screen every few days. Roku says this can happen if you have a loose HDMI connection or an older TV. It is annoying to have to unplug the unit every few days to reset it. My TV is a bit older, but not ancient. Was manufactured just before the smart ones arrived. Dear Roku: isn't this a primary use you are selling these units for? How about a firmware upgrade?

I hate the remote

Most people watch movies in the dark or low light conditions,
and since you made the remote black, with black buttons, and all the same height, it is EXTREMELY hard to work the remote without turning on a light to see it.
Make the buttons white, or florescent, and make them a different height, or feel, so you can work them with a simple touch.. Not rocket science here.
