I was dismayed to find out that I could not complete setup without filing a credit card number even though I have no plans to buy anything through the Roku.

The Roku2 itself is OK, but the remote SUCKS!!!

The remote is so horrible it really affects how you can use the Roku. It's hard to even just rewind if you mnssed something because it takes a few tries to get it to rwd and then it goes back to the beginning by the time you get the remote to play again. I think the upgraded "point anywhere remote" on the Roku 3 is just code for "this one works".
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Roku may be wonderful but I wouldn't know. The remote doesn't work unless you press the button five or six times and you are less than 3 feet away

Look no further...The Best

If you are looking for a streaming device look no further...The Roku 2 is the best. You will first need to decide if you need just Netflix or also Amazon Prime Video. There are a vast number of other channels on each but these are the most popular as well as Hulu Plus for paid subscriptions. Chromecast does not offer Amazon Prime Video because of the Google-Amazon rivalry. We subscribe to both Netflix and Amazon so Chromecast was not an option. We were replacing an older Roku we had for years and first bought a Roku stick attracted by the size and price. It worked ok but were ultimately disappointed by the constant buffering. We took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for an Amazon FireTV Stick. While the user interface was attractive there were again buffering issues. Interestingly it was mainly Netflix while Amazon Prime Video worked fine. So we upgraded our router to a high end model to see if that was the issue. Nope...the buffering issues continued. So we took back the Fire Stick and abandoned the streaming sticks altogether and bought the Roku 2. It has been flawless! No irritating buffering or resetting which we had to do constantly with the sticks. Just pure streaming entertainment enjoyment the way it's meant to be! Save yourself from buffering frustration and go Roku 2 right from the start.

Had all the rest. Apple TV . Fire TV/fire stick, chromecast.
None of them compare to Roku. Great apps. Works seamlessly. Best by far.
