The Good and the Bad

We have two Roku units in the house; one own our main, internet linked entertainment center and the other in the master bedroom. While both have been a reasonable convenient way to access such services as NetFlix, they are still looong lacking in other ways.
The ability to play local media from a USB drive is disappointing in the limited number of video/audio file formats it can handle. Good gried, still no MKV support? That is ridiculous in this era considering it is a highly, widely used container format. Even when it does play such, it often chokes on the audio file/track, which are often in some variation of AAC.
When are you going to catch up, Netflix?
The ability to access a DLNA server for network media is of little use since the only way this is done is through PLEX, already widely known for its abuses of open source software and users. Open source alternatives do exist, which should be obvious considering that PLEX itself is built on commercializing such code that it did not initiate itself. PLEX is not the only player on this block, so look around.
Time again for Netflix to catch up.
Five stars for convenience, three stars for so little available in media channels of worth, zero stars for long (long) needed catch up in media codec support and househeld media access and integration without the need of third parties. Goodness gratious, if it can be done on any PC or tablet, why isn't Netflix keepin up?

I have only used this to watch Netflix so far, but it's a great product! Set up was easy, and you can start using it within minutes.

I have a Sling TV subscription. Maybe because the app required a lot of processing power or something, I have a hard time navigating with IR remote. Either it doesn't response to the button command or overly done (keep scrolling with just one push). It needs to be fixed.

This is our second device. We enjoy the option to select the time when we want to watch a program. Grandson is 5 years old and knows how to select his programs.

I'm a late bloomer to streaming movies and TV programs. I found the media availability very overwhelming at first. My introduction to streaming was through my Blueray which was great. However I wanted connectivity for other TV sets without another DVD player. ROKU was my perfect answer! Easy and fast to hook up and simple interface handset to navigate the controls.
