This was my first purchase of a dedicated streaming device. I have previously used WiFi enabled BluRay players for streaming. They got the job done more or less but typically with so-so video qualitty and a lot of buffering and screen freezes and other issues that required rebooting. Their menu structures were also a chore to navigate. The Roku 2 was a quantum leap ahead in ease of setup and use. It is essentially always on (no power button) but it does go into a screensaver/sleep mode after awhile. It starts immediately though and I've yet to experience any buffering/freezing/reset issues of any kind. Where it really shines is in the extremely intuitive setup and the ease of use. You can move channels around to reposition them on your home screen which is nice. The remote is simple to use and the options/choices are intuitively obvious. I did get the app for my smartphone but have not used it much yet - the provided remote is that good. Although the setup is intuitive, it is a little tedious entering email addresses, user IDs, passwords, etc. one character at a time. I don't know if there is a way to do this online using a laptop keyboard at a Roku website. After you enter one account though it will prompt to use the same information on the next one. That's nice, but not much use if you used different email addresses, etc. for your other accounts. Of course, this is mainly just a one time thing at the initial setup. I say mainly because after a brief power outage at my house, my account setup information was lost and I had to enter it all again. This has been the only negative so far. In everything thing else it is a super device, highly recommended. I'll only ever use my Blu-Ray player for DVDs from now on.

The new roku 2 is great and there is almost no loading time. I think it takes less time to watch shows now when you don't have to wait for loading after each commercial.
