just get the 3 instead

I bought this to replace a 3 that was constantly dropping the audio out of everything. and i thought to myself "oh i dont need that fancy remote with its fancy features," I was wrong. Having to go back to actually pointing the remote at the tv is super annoying and I wish I had just got the 3, or even the 4 now. The cost difference is negligible.
Yes this has all the same content and the box itself does all the same things, so in that sense its exactly the same as the 3, but do yourself a favor and just spend the extra few bucks because the fancy remote for the 3 is worth it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love the roku. Bought the Roku 2. Only drawback, can't find free football to watch. We're a football family and this I do not like.

Lots of content to choose from

I have an Apple TV and was considering the newer version but did not want to be locked into one platform. I read the reviews for all, including Roku, Amazon, Chrome, and went with the Roku because of the agnostic approach to content. I could not be happier with my choice and will purchase more to replace cable mini boxes and for gifts for family. Best purchase I have made in a while.

I bought an antenna to avoid paying for cable, so I get a few basic channels, but the Roku has truly changed the way I watch TV. Watching Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo, and Amazon from the comfort of my bed makes rainy days actually exciting.

Best Streaming Device, truly value for money

This is an awesome device. I even use it on my Samsung Smart TV because this is much faster and have more apps. I have started recommending many friends to not buy smart TV and rather go for normal HD LED TV and buy a Roku device to make it smart. this is value for money product. You will save a lot on normal TV and using Roku to make any TV a Smart TV.
I would recommend this to a friend!
