Purchased this Roku 2 as an alternative to cable/satellite about a month ago. Best idea ever. All the apps I want without having to pay for the stuff I don't want.

Awesome Streaming Option

As someone who cannot afford a smart TV or cable subscription, Roku was a great option. I originally purchased a Roku stick, but my HDMI port is oddly placed facing down towards the TV stand, and the stick + power plug did not fit. I chose Roku because it has the most channels available and is relatively inexpensive compared to, say, an Apple TV.
One thing I'm a little bummed about is the absence of major channels I watch, which are the only reasons I would ever own a cable box. Specifically ABC Family and BBC, I have yet to find a streaming option for BBC as it is not on Sling either.
I was also a little disappointed in the fact that the Roku 2 remote is not a "point anywhere" remote like the stick, I have to aim it directly at the light on the device. The point anywhere appears to be available for separate purchase, so maybe in the future I'll splurge on that.
All that being said, the streaming on the Roku is really clean! I do sometimes get some lag when searching for channels in the channel store, but I'm not too concerned about it.
I give Roku 2 a 4/5, only because of the missing channels, the remote, and the slight lag. It's a great buy, I do highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a streaming player.

Ok , doesn't hold up

This is my 3 player purchased, because after about a year I had problems with the equipment. I keep buying them because it is the only way I can get some of the services it want. If I could find away to get all the services another way I would. I will only buy the cheapest model,because I keep having to replace it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent Entertainment Box

I just bought the ROKU 2 box even though the ROKU 3 and 4 was available. It was easy to install and select my channels. The picture looks great with my HD TV. I have cancelled my cable subscription.

I dont know why I did'nt get this years ago.. I disconnected from all paid services cable/satellite and got an sntenna.. We were still missing shows tho and decided lets give the Roku a try.. I am in love with this as I get so many shows..Cost per month is great also..
