Interesting device

Interesting device that allows me to access the various tv formats (but not broadcast and cable). Movies at a additional cost, but those movies that are in the public domain are available at no cost. (Goodbye, Turner Classics). So far, so good.

Recently purchased. I bought it for the TV on my porch. I have Time Warner cable and didn't want to rent a box to receive all the channels on that TV. With the TWC TV app I can get all the channels, including HD, that I get with the box in my living room. In about 8 months it will pay for itself. I haven't used it very much but so far I am happy with it. Good picture, good response. I haven't had any buffering issues.

Roku 2 - cuts the cord!

i did not want to continue using cable or satellite service in our new home. I researched various streaming devices and chose the Roku 2 and Sling TV. Best move I ever made - easy to set up, easy to use, very intuitive. And the amount of available content (if you choose) is huge. Why be tied to a cable service provider in a day and age where streaming video is is easy and so easily available! And cut your cable bill to zero. If you have given any thought to getting rid of cable - do it and Go Roku!!

Very pleased with The Unit

I purchased the new model of the Roku 2 and I an very pleased with the unit. I have used it to view Netflix, HBO, TWC and Amazon Streaming video so far and the unit performs beautifully. The price was reasonable and it supports all my streaming service providers. My only issue is that the Amazon Client does not support streaming of the pre-defined Amazon Playlists but hopefully this feature will be added via a firmware upgrade in the future.

Excellent hardware & content, many choices!

At first I thought I needed a Roku 3 but found a Roku 2 was plenty for me and cheaper too. Excellent hardware, no power switch oddly enough so I plug into a power strip I turn off at night. The unit heats up and I worry about that. I don't like the four buttons that have been programmed for content I doubt I will ever use, otherwise no complaints.
For content, there is so much to choose from: pay per view such as Google play but this can be expensive; subscription services such as Hulu which I use, a monthly fee for all viewing; then there are "free" channels which you get ads every few minutes, some have optional fees to bypass ads, such as Popcornflix, which offers many foreign movies; there are a few completely free channels with no ads such as PubDHub which has many public domain movies in various genres. There are also free channels like PBS that I use, or others that require a present cable subscription. I do not have cable so do not use those ones.
What you decide to use and pay for is completely up to you. I tend towards the free and monthly subscription type.
The unit will update all channels that need it. Many channels have a free trial period, take advantage of those. All in all I am very happy with the Roku, it is all I hoped for. Great quality streaming for video or audio. Recommended.

I bought my new Roku 2 a few weeks ago mainly for when my family and I travel! What I did not know at first is that I would be unable to use it at hotels or other places with a public wifi connection until I had updated the software on my home network or private network which left us high and dry for our first weekend of would be use! But this is the only reason I'm giving a 4* rating instead of a 5* rating!! We use it almost every day now and my above mentioned problem was resolved and have since used it at a hotel with ease!!! Love this ROKU 2!!!!!
