OK Cable Alternative - Excellent Video Streamer

Do not buy this product expecting to completely remove your cable set top boxes. I was bummed to find out there was a multitude of "apps" (channels in Roku speak) that would not allow us to sign in using our Comcast account. We are aware this probably is more of a Comcast issue than a Roku issue. But for example, HGTV has an app that allows us to watch recent episodes but we can't go any deeper than that without having a cable provider sign in. Also bummed there is no "Comcast On Demand-esqe" app ~ again probably not the fault of Roku, but may have swayed my decision prior to purchase.
When it comes to Netflix, HBO Go, and other various channels that either do not required a sign in (ABC, Fox, NBC) this thing is fantastic. Much quicker than our Chromecast and the integration of a dedicated remote is a bigger deal than expected. Set up is quick and easy. Small footprint that can be hidden anywhere. Does exactly what we need it to do on a spare TV. Will definitely recommend to others.

I tried Roku and streaming service as it's been hyped. Honestly have to state that I didn't like the service at all. As a big channel surfer, I enjoy seeing what other programs are on, reviewing the cast and jumping around. Roku service didn't allow me to do this...to each their own. At least I tried it and know what I don't like.

Gobbles up Bandwidth

Even reducing the picture/feed resolution to 720, and it still eats up more bandwidth. NOT designed for "limited cap plans" it wants to "enrich" your video experience while making your ISP rich also. Was returned. And it's "cousin" Fire TV was the same way...It is a huge issue for us "cord cutters" with a data plan that is capped at 250 or 300. 4-5 hours of tv chews up 8-10 mbs of bandwidth in one day...times 30 days...ouch..

I love and truly enjoy my Roku player. The vast array of movies and shows is by far number one. Truly don't understand how Time Warner keeps going????
