I received this little beauty as a gift for Christmas. I have yet to spend a single penny yet have more entertainment than I know what to do with!

I only bought this a few days ago which makes it difficult to give an in depth review but I will say that so far I have faced a few obstacles. I will admit not being computer savvy does not help any, how about making it easier for us to navigate adding channels. My past experience with the older ROKU was great. There is such a tempting array of channels to chose from with the ROKU 2 it seems the ones I would like to have are pretty difficult to get to my TV. To date I have wasted more time than I wish to so will most likely stay with the easily added channels. This may not be the fault of ROKU, it may be the individual sites. Like I mentioned I am not a PC savvy person, do not have a cell phone or tablet and only wish to stream to my TV. However, I love the concept and the ROKU unit was easy to install.

GREAT but...

I hardly watch TV except for those random hit series on HBO/Netflix/Showtime etc so I was very excited to get my Roku2 as it would allow me to watch just that and maybe discover a bit more.
Set up is very easy and instructions are very clear. The platform is simple for a novice. You can take your Roku anywhere as long as you have internet connection. Your phone or iPad can even be used as the remote. You get a few promotion incentives (free month etc) with some of the applications for singing up which I think is awesome because you can try out the apps and really find what you're going to like!
My negatives begin with poor connectivity which I don't know if its the Roku2 or the applications issue. I did have to move my Roku2 from my living room to bedroom as wifi was poor. Mid show it would just start loading and lagging or have poor picture quality. But even my other devises sometimes have issues in this part of the house so I took it as that. Once I moved the Roku2 near the modem, connection was great however, recently I have been having issues again. Apps I select will just load and load and load and never open. I refreshed my connection multiple times, restarted the Roku2 and tried 3 different apps but same thing- would not connect. It wasn't until I completely unplugged my internet modem that the apps started to work again. I am eager to see how this holds up because if it becomes a matter of me constantly having to disconnect my modem when all my other internet devises are working perfectly fine, I will see the Roku2 as more of a nuisance.

My 80 year old dad was interested in getting this product, and I was curious about it, so we bought it for his TV and I helped him set it up. My first reaction was disappointment, in that there aren't enough free streaming channels with interesting content. It REALLY bugged me that I had to open an account with my credit card info to even activate the thing. I'm not a Netflix or hulu subscriber, I can see how this device would be ideal for those who are. But for free content, it seems the equivalent of watching TV on an airplane, you get a menu of programs and for the free ones you often have to sit through ads. I played a movie from one of the free movie channels and the resolution was horrible -- I realize they're not all like that, but I already have all the movies I want on dvd or on hard drives, so free movie channels with ads just isn't a big draw. This technology also depends on internet connection, so if it happens not to be a fast connection you have to wait for programs to load. I prefer watching content from hard drives, so I was most intrigued by the Roku 2's USB input, but MOST video file extensions were incompatible to play. (This would be a DREAM device if it played ALL file extensions.) Also when we looked at photo files via the USB input, there also didn't seem to be a way to rotate the sideways ones. At the end of the day, it makes more sense for me to just plug my computer directly to my TV with an HDMI and stream content that way instead. TV's have a limited number of HDMI ports anyway, and I frankly didn't want to have to use one for Roku. Now, I only explored the Roku for a couple of days and I'm sure there are many advantages I just didn't have time to discover. But from what I did experience, the minuses outweighed the pluses.
