We purchased the Roku 2 primarily to stream Acorn TV. It does a great job! We have also experienced improved reception for Netflix and Amazon (though that may due to the new hdmi cable).

We don't get any OTA channels and have a radio based Internet system and the Roku brought us back into the civilized realm!!! So far I'm pleased with the results. The Ruko 2 works fine and using a smart phone as a remote adds some of the more expensive features.

I got this Roku because my Netflix and Amazon were very slow with cable. The Roku is amazing and has sped things up considerably. It's incredibly fast. Also, it's very easy to use and totally accessible. I'm extremely happy I got it.

A noticable improvement in speed over older model

I purchased this Roku to replace a much older model that was purchased four or five years ago. The older model had worked great until about three months ago and then it started to "lock up" while playing YouTube videos. I watch a lot of videos and having them lock while playing was not acceptable. Once I was certain that it was not my internet service/speed, and also certain that rebooting would not correct the problem, I made the decision to upgrade Roku devices. I conducted a lot of research and I learned that the current version of the Roku 2 is the fastest processor to date. This gave me great hope for smooth video playing. Upon connecting the Roku I immediately noticed, when I pushed the select button, that it jumped from channel to channel much faster than the old device. Also, there were some channels that, when selected on the old device, would take quite a bit of time to load. On the new Roku 2 this load time is eliminated and channels open up immediately. On YouTube I was very pleased that I could jump from video to video very quickly with a notable improvement in speed. I have been watching videos for several weeks now and the new Roku has not "locked up" once. There have been a few "sputters," but this could possibly be the internet service. Overall, I am very pleased with the much faster speed on my new Roku 2. I do wish it had a smart remote that would show me the battery level (my old one did), but that isn't a big deal. Also, I wish that Roku wouldn't put big selection buttons of the remote for services they have agreements with. For example, The remote has four buttons (that I keep hitting by accident) for Netflix, Amazon, Rdio, and Sling. I only have Amazon and don't care about any of the large buttons they force onto you. This irritated me a little more when I clicked on Rdio only to find out it is no longer operating. So, I have a button for a service that doesn't even exist. Wow, I guess the remote buttons bothered me more than I realized. I just don't like pushy marketing like that, and I would like my remote to simply be a remote control and not an advertising device. Nevertheless, the Roku 2, so far, is working great and fast and I would recommend it.
