Great Features, When it Works

I have had my roku for about a week now, and I was very excited to use it. When I got it plugged in, it took forever to set up because I had to go into my router settings on my laptop and disable the firewall and change the wifi channel, which prior to reading a ton of forums from other people having this issue, I had no idea existed. The internet connection still doesn't stay connected, it goes out randomly and will come back on in a few minutes, or won't come back on until I reset the box. One time I had to use the reboot code twice for the connection to work again, but most of the time I just have to wait it out. The main thing I use the roku for is netflix, which buffers so much, possibly because of the internet thing. Not many consumers are tech savvy and know how to fix these issues; I'm definitely not. If these issues can't be fixed with an update, there should at least be information on how to fix general problems in the pamphlet in the box. A problem I am having with pandora is the volume getting randomly louder or quiter, without remote interference. The roku has a lot of options, and is fantastic when the connection works. However it's extremely frustrating to wait around for a connection and for netflix to pause 20 times during a show.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have 3 Roku2's. Excellent for streaming channels, Amazon, netflix, hulu. Use everyday as alternate to advertising ridden cable tv. Such a variety of choices to watch. Exceptional device.

Best Way to Watch TV

I replaced my Roku 2 XS with this new 2015 Roku 2. The new Roku 2 is faster and I prefer the new IR remote to Bluetooth on the old XS. The old XS served well for several years but it started acting wierd (reboots, replay jumps, etc) so I retired it. Roku supports more programming than other streaming devices (e.g. BBC stuff on Acorn TV) so I didn't even consider other streaming devices. Roku also has a very easy user interface. Except for current programming (news, weather, new episodes) we watch everything on Roku.

Flawless Right Out of the Box

I had a DVD player for streaming videos, and it stopped working six months ago. I blamed everything but the player, spending many hours of testing to no avail. Then I tried Roku 2. Not only did it work perfectly, but this was how I learned that the other player never worked well, even in its "heyday." With Roku, it's just the same as watching TV -- no waiting for a movie to start and no interruptions waiting for the device to catch up with streaming in the middle of a movie. My only regret is that I didn't figure it out much sooner!

I've had a Roku XS for about 2 years and have loved it. I bought this Roku 2 in December. Some of the features are better (continuous play of series instead of always having to hit play on the next episode), but I have been unable to link any accounts besides Netflix, TWC and Amazon. HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, and even basic channels like NBC won't let me login. I have confirmed account settings, and the link works on all other devices except this one. There should be one link required- link to your service provider, and then all of the associated channel services should automatically work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
