Great piece of equipment. Even if you still have cable this thing can replace your other cable boxes like in bedrooms so you don't have to rent them from the cable company. Just wish the remote had a little more like a page up/down button and number pad.

So Far, So Great!!

This is our first experience with a Roku. We received the Roku 2 as a Christmas gift.
We were using other hardware (satellite box / DVR as well as a "smart" HDTV) in order to access our music and movies on our NAS as well as various apps (i.e Netflix, You Tube, etc...). Both devices / hardware were slow in accessing the data / apps, but also becoming unpredictable (i.e. hanging / freezing). I think that the satellite box / DVR was not designed to handle satellite as well as app streaming, including music and movies from a NAS. Just not enough horsepower.
The Roku 2 (2015) solved all of that and more. What surprised me right out of the box was how small it actually is. After setting it up, which was simple, I was extremely pleased with it's overall speed in opening apps and actually streaming content. It is very smooth without any hiccups. Streaming our movies from our NAS is fantastic. A huge and surprising improvement over streaming via our satellite hardware (it has a built in wireless connection that connects to our NAS) where movies would either freeze-up or pixilate.
I think that the Roku 2 Home page and overall navigation is intuitive and fast. Another feature that surprised me is the Roku app that can be downloaded to your iPhone. The remote feature (you can use your iPhone to control the Roku) is amazing and convenient. It has worked flawlessly. Convenient. The only thing that caused some confusion was how to add, delete, and rearrange channels on the Roku Home screen. I have since figured this out as there are several ways to do this (i.e. online, iPhone app, and on the home screen while using the Roku). Still playing with this feature.
The apps / channels that are offered for download / install is robust to say the least. All the major players are represented as well as ones I never knew existed. I am definitely going to try the Sling TV app. I would like to test that out to see if it's a true "cord cutting" option.
So, so far, so great! I have some additional testing to do, but this lives up to and exceeds my expectations in terms of ease of use and speed. The reviews online for Roku 2 are accurate.

Disappointed with Roku 2

I just recently upgraded from my Roku XD, to the Roku 2. It won't sync with the apps I've downloaded so they won't play. It won't officially reboot. I've sat on numerous techie calls with no solution to the problem. I wish I had kept the classic version. I'm returning it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love this little box. We have smart TVs but this is like adding a turbo to Corvette. The only this I see or thinks it needs is being able to control the volume of the TV.

Beyond thrilled with this purchase because I was scared to leave behind satellite but the roku has so many options that I don't miss satellite! Highly recommend if you're thinking about ditching the dish!
