OK but

After initial power up the roku2 updated to 5.2 version and I looses volume --it loses volume everyday and I have to reboot it ,sometimes more than once.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Speedy player, remote difficult

We've had 3 generations of roku players, this is by far the best one from a performance and connectivity setting. Unfortunately, the Roku 2 has the old school IR tech remote, which my BASE model previous generation didn't even have. Man, you have got to point the remote DIRECTLY at the unit, you're off 5 degrees forget about it. Overall, happy but I guess my suggestion would be get the Roku 3, we've had this until for a week and already are thinking about plugging the older gen in.

I would like instructions to use this. If I hit Roku, I have to go to pc to put code in and could not find a place to put the code. I don't want to have to do this. Maybe after I have it on, you aren't to go to Roku. Please send me better instructions to use this great item.

I really like the ROKU for its ease of installation and features availability. However, I give it an "F" because it does not provide A/V ports like its predecessor for surround sound.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not the choice for playback of your own content

First, you need to add "channels" (apps) just to enable playback of local content from USB. There are multiple versions from different companies, and they all feature horribly ugly interfaces that are jarringly different than the main Roku look and feel.
A standard USB playback "channel" should be officially available from Roku and part of the base software - this is a no brainer! And finally, the fact that AVI is not supported is completely unacceptable. A lot of older content is AVI, and a media player company should be licensing the correct formats without trying to save a few extra cents!
Activated and then deactivated and returned the Roku the next day. Days and weeks later I am still receiving welcome emails and being hounded to submit a review. I think this tells you a lot about the company's priorities!

Commercials are troublesome

The ROKU 2 itself works great. From a product standpoint the only issue I have is that it does not come with the HDMI cable included. The main issue I have is related to the commercials on the free networks. I understand the need for commercials and I am okay with them being used, it is the type and method that is troublesome.
For instance, I had the Jim Henson Family TV channel on so my 4 year old daughter could watch Fraggle Rock and the 2nd commercial that came on was for Victoria Secret with barely clad females advertising what not to wear. This is hardly proper targeting of a product to an audience.
Also, the commercials seem to be timed at specific intervals not related to the actual program timing. In other words, instead of the commercials coming at the relevant breaks in the show, they come every so many minutes; right in the middle of a sentence, or action scene, etc. This is very annoying.
And you had better like just one specific commercial because most channels will play one commercial 3 - 4 time in a row throughout the program.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Dislike with extreme prejudice

My first Roku 2 died after a year. I went to just buy one in kind, after I bought it took it home I discovered they change the device. I really enjoyed the headphone feature on my other one, now I don't have that feature.
