The Roku 2 we purchased has been great. We decided to purchase the 2 because our internet isn't the fastest and we wanted to have a streaming box with an ethernet port, just to be safe. I think it was the right call, as we almost never have buffering issues, despite our slow internet.

Bought this last week and found out it has so many channels to add and watch. Wish I had bought one last year and got rid of DirectTV sooner

I've been making many financial changes this year. With cable prices rising I thought that this would be a great investment. My best friend has the Roku 1 and he loves it.

Roku vs satellite or Cable

In short, I think Roku is a great alternative to subscription TV choices. I feel that there is only one draw if you want to call it that. And I'll explain.
For most of our lives we've had television and we've grown accustomed to being able to turn on your TV and walking away if you feel like it. Doing so you don't have to concern yourself about what's on TV just that it on and programming is proceeding without your intervention. If there is something you wish to see when you return you just turn to it.
Roku on the other hand isn't like that. If you turn it on without making a choice in programming, in a short time you will have a screen saver being shown on your monitor. This I had to get used to because the only things that works that way are computers or a smart phones. The main super quality of Roku is that there are thousands of channels to choose from. Some paid and some free but each one of those channels have many entertainment options. Most unavailable on any cable or satellite subscription choice. In summation, to me, Roku could almost take the place of my Subscription TV Service.

I bought it got it home and tried it and found out I have to pay to watch the channels I get for free with a antenna. Don't like it at all.
