Roku 2

Put up an antenna and dumped my cable tv service. Hoped this would give us all the tv we want for less $. Works great with my high-speed internet. I have our unit at 60 ft from the router (max. of 25-30 is recommended), and it still works great most of the time. Occasionally we lose the sound for a few minutes due to the extra distance from the router (I'm told by Roku). I have ordered a second unit for our other tv which is much closer to the router. (Of course, Charter cable service increased my monthly charge for the internet because of dropping the tv service. They have a monopoly on really high-speed internet in my town so I have no alternative.)

Voice Not Needed

Did not need Roku 3 since I don't use voice. Fine machine and fast. One complaint is that each channel has a different set-up of putting in user names and passwords which is annoying.

Bought a Roku 2 to replace Chromecast. Using the unit to stream from a Tablo OTA DVR and Netflix and other stuff. Chromecast buffered a lot, but have had none of that with Roku. I hadn't realized how much easier it was to manage content using a remote versus casting from a phone or iPad. Highly recommended!

recent cord-cutter, this roku box is a dream

after having satellite continuously for the past 12 years I was pretty worried about the tv choices I was giving up when its ever-increasing prices basically left me no choice but to cancel. in barely one day my new roku box (and netflix sub) erased all fears and now the only thing I feel bad about is having waited so long to make the move. the number of channels and immensely varied content available via the roku leaves me awestruck. I've been having trouble tearing myself away from the tv, a problem I never had before :)
the higher-powered new roku 2 with ethernet (not a fan of wireless when wired is an option) came out at the absolute perfect time so I bought it without hesitation. I don't need a whizbang remote nor headphone jack and with the commensurate lower cost consider the new roku 2 a fantastic value.
I have a new and so-called smart tv since nowadays one is pretty much forced to waste $$ on that premium given high quality dumb tvs are almost impossible to find anymore. streaming from companies where it's not really their business (like tv makers) has a kind of minimalist/hobby feel to it. I didn't realize how stark that difference was until I actually got a roku, for who after all streaming is their bread and butter. for those that maybe only want a couple of the mainline services a smart tv is probably sufficient - if you need more varied content, fear a tv maker's apps/'smartness' will gather dust/become obsolete as they move to new tv models and start ignoring updating yours then you'll want a more suitable setup from streaming professionals like the ppl at roku.
