The Epic has made me love Leapfrog tablets again

We have been Leapfrog fans ever since my oldest child was 1 (she's 14 now!!) and I didn't think their edutainment gadgets could get any better, but they have really stepped it up with the LeapFrog Epic Tablet. To be perfectly honest, I was underwhelmed with their previous tablet, the LeapPad Platinum, because I didn't feel like it had enough new/innovative technology to justify upgrading. My advice at the time was, "Wait".
I'm happy to say that the Epic is what I was waiting for. This tablet represents a fundamental shift from previous Leapfrog tablets. My 6 and 4 year-old nieces love it!!
Visually, the tablet is still easily identifiable as a Leapfrog tablet -- it has the green plastic bumper, the stylus, the graphic displays, the multiple child profiles, the learning experience customized to the child's age.
However, there are three major changes I really love. First, Epic is the first Leapfrog product to Android OS. We are an Android family so the Epic no longer feels like a "separate" gadget. Young kids with Epic tablets will feel less like they are getting a "kiddie tablet" because the Epic has many of the same apps as mom's and dad's tablet-- Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump, and TocaBoca for example. Even better, the apps are ad-free! Second, no more cartridges (this is a blessing for parents like me who constantly lose those little things!), just pre-installed apps and the capability to download more. Third, the home screen is customizable (great for older kids to enjoy a more personalized experience).
So, for everyone who was waiting to upgrade their child's Leapfrog tablet, I say Upgrade Now! Get the Epic!
I received a LeapFrog Epic Tablet free of charge for review purposes. All opinions and experiences are my own.
Pros: Fun for kids, Grows with child, Good for on-the-go play, Educational

The Best LeapFrog Tablet Yet!

My kids have owned every tablet that LeapFrog has put out. This one is by far their favorite! With the LeapFrog Epic, there's no need to buy cartridges (thank goodness!), as you can connect to area WiFi and download games and apps. You also can download Android apps. This tablet is extremely durable as well. It's been dropped numerous times and it keeps on going without a hitch. As with most LeapFrog games, the games adjust to your child's skill level. I love that the games grow with my child. The tablet features an interactive home screen, kid-safe web browsing, and had front and back cameras for photos and videos. If you're questioning if your child will love this tablet...let me tell you, they will!
*I received this tablet for free, however the views and opinions expressed above are strictly my own and that of my children.*
Pros: Fun for kids, Grows with child, Good for on-the-go play, Educational

Needs a few tweaks

I do not own one for my children HOWEVER after reading reviews and specs I would like to leave some feedback for LeapFrog. It would be nice if it had a cartridge slot for games that many have already purchased with their older models BUT it's not a terrible inconvenience. From what I can gather, there is not full access to the Android market. This for me, is a reason NOT to buy. My children both have the LeapPad Ultra currently (which has actually been quite glitchy sadly) and if I were to purchase a LeapPad that has an android operating system I would like the ability to decide for myself which android apps are appropriate for them. It would be very easy to make this password accessible, that way the children cannot access it without their parents permission. I would also like to see ALL LeapPad Apps be accessible. As it stands, not all of them are which is simply ridiculous. Aside from that, I think the way the web browser accessibility is set up is good and the customizable/interactive home screen is pretty cool as well. Please consider these things and I would LOVE to upgrade BOTH of my kids to a new Android-based LeapPad!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love this new tablet from LeapFrog!

The LeapFrog Epic. This is a brand-new product from LeapFrog with so many new and wonderful features that make this product fun & exciting for kids. We have been big LeapFrog fans in our house & are excited when we heard the release of this one of a kind tablet from LeapFrog. The LeapFrog Epic reminds me of the many wonderful tablets that us adults have, but created just for kids in mind.
With three rough and tumble kids, I don't always feel safe handing over my iPhone or iPad to let them play games, so I love the kid-tough durablitity of the new LeapFrog Epic to allow them to play this on their own without me having to monitor their every minute with the tablet. The home screen is customizable to your kids' interests & super easy for the kids to navigate. My son loves to check his each morning, just so he can tell us the weather report that is displayed on his home screen.
This is the first LeapFrog tablet that does not take game cartridges (no more searching for lost games!). Instead, it comes pre-installed with over 20 games and apps for kids. Some of my kids' favorites include: Fruit Ninja Math Academy, Disney Octonauts Learning Game, & Wacky Weaver's Water Park. There is also access to LeapFrog exclusive content, games, apps, eBooks, and more & the ability to download Android games and apps for kids. This allows my kids to now install some of their favorite Android apps right to their own device! Just like previous LeapFrog games, the games installed on the Epic are created to encourage learning & support critical thinking. One of the things I love most about the Epic is the Just for Me Learning technology. Games will automatically adjust the skill level based on your child's progress in the game, allowing for the game to grow with your child.
The LeapFrog Epic also has a search browser that allows access to the Internet, but ensures only access to approved kid-appropriate web content allowing us to know that our kids will be searching the Internet safely. I can add new websites to the browser or unlock a less restricted browser when my child is ready, allowing the tablet to again grow with my child. As a parent, I also love the ability to set limits on what, when, & how long each child can use the device. All parents have the ability to set parent controls for up to three of their children. With three kids at different levels, it's nice to vary the controls based on each of my children's ability.
I am excited about this new product from LeapFrog. This will be a great learning resource and toy for my kids for many years to come!

Leapfrog did it again with another product that keeps my son engaged while he learns! He was so excited to have a tablet - and I'm excited for him to be learning. The battery life is great, and it is so easy to get "new" games.

This really should be every childs first tablet

OK well allot of you may think im crazy but i just recently bought this tablet for my ONE year old. He always loves watching movies and watching me play games on my phone he is pretty alert for his age so i thought it would be a good idea too get it for him so he won't have to hog my phone lol. right now the things he focuses more on are the leapfrog episodes he loves those and he loves watching elmo he hasn't quite learned how to play the games but i know when he gets more used to it he'll catch on and start earning tokens. The tablet is so interactible i have a strong feeling by the time he turns two which won't be until November 3 of 2018 he will have the hang of it and be able to play the simple games on his own.
Another great feature is you can download Amazon prime because, i do feel like the biggest downside is the apps on the leapfrog app store are a little over priced that's why the amazon prime compatbilty is a big plus, and also im writing this review with my sons leapfrog epic from a regular browser that only parents have access to. I didn't even know you could go to a parent private browser until i was trying to see how much i REALLY was in control of this tablet. I think that is very unique and advanced, but ok im going to try cut this short even though its long lol.
I never doubted it would be a great product for my son. All of my friends told me i was crazy for buying him something so advanced when he's only one. I dont think its ever to early to start learning. Me being a younger mom i personally remeber having a leapfrog book when i was young with the interactive pen, and it extremely improved my reading, spelling, and vocabulary. As a result i was always in gifted reading and writting. Teachers would be shocked at my reading level. leapfrog products really do help allot by making learning fun for children by incorperating some of their favorite cartoons into the best educatiol games. so with that being said im happy my son has one, and if he plays frequently as he ages i truly believe by four or five he could be doing simple math and reading children's books on his own. Thank you leapfrop for making technology that's actually teaches, helps our children understand, and prepare for their first days of school instead of just playing unbenificial apps on their moms phone <3
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Good for on-the-go play, Grows with child
