Excellent Printer

This is my first Epson Workforce printer. It replaced a similar featured product from another manufacturer and I could not be more pleased with my choice. I spent weeks researching the decision and I can see why this printer is so highly regarded. Setup was fast and easy, and the software even updated the printer firmware automatically. The printer is extremely fast on startup and printing and is also far quitter than I have been accustomed to.
Print quality is exceptional, and it even prints in black and white when the color ink is out?
Highly recommended

Good value for the money

Right out of the box, it was put to work - work it did! The set up seemed a little clumsy, but it was acceptable.
I do find the on-screen control somewhat difficult to use, and the OCR capabilities were nowhere to be seen. I later learned (by surfing) that some of Epson features were packed away in add-ons available on the Epson web site. I really wanted OCR for the few times I just did not want to retype something I read. There was an add-on for the OCR. It is not very intuitive, and does not seem to work as well as some of the competitive ones. but it will get me by.
I really like the rear sheet feeder. That sure beats the competition's idea of taking the paper out and loading in one envelope to mail in a payment!

Good purchase ,

This is my first Epson purchase and was purchased because competitors quit making rear top paper feeders which I need when working with specialty papers ( card stock various photo papers etc) ,
So far, so good. The card stock selection is a positive improvement, and great feature; as is the rear top paper feeder,
The ability to set paper types or sizes and features from the printer keyboard was new and strange to me as it seemed counter productive if the printer is in another room but I noted the same can still be set from the computer. However, if paper types are changed in the computer (i.e plain paper 8 1/2 x 11 card stock, to 4 x 6 glossy ) the previous paper types that were set from the keyboard cause a minor delay when you are basically asked by the printer screen which is correct ... another nice feature.
I also like how easy it was to update the various software and printer drivers as the advent of WINDOWS 8.1 has required driver updates for most printers
Wireless set up for multiple computers on a network was almost flawless, (Updating the firmware and the software and printer driver made it easier to find it on the network)
I liked the color and print quality of a few test printings and photos.
I have yet to see how long the ink lasts ... hopefully grayscale and fast printing on text documents will use less ink and extend usage capability .
I am one who only buys printers with separate cartridges for each color, and this printer has that capability . Getting ink replacement is sort of confusing as the ink cartridges are really huge but do not seem to really hold much ink ,Then there is "standard ink" cartridges and "high capacity" ink cartridges and one that seems to have high capacity (XL) Black ink with standard capacity color cartridges. Like most ink prices seem to have quite a range depending where you make your purchase.
I have not tried the scanner features from the computer but hope they work well also .
The fax was a simple and very quick set up .
All in all it seems like a great printer , Only time will really tell what rating it really deserves

Easy set up for wireless. and for a wireless network.
I did not have any of the problems some folks have had. So perhaps some hints could help those that have experienced some difficulty in set up, or be of help to some future users.
A few Hints::
Use the disk that comes with the printer for initial set up on one computer (wireless or not) then download and install all of the newest driver, and utilities software on the same computer. (follow the wizard set up instructions.. and don't forget to download and install the firmware download on the printer ... A one time USB cable connection printer to computer is required for the firmware update ... see wizard instructions. #
If you are using a network:
Then download and install the updates for each computer that is on the network .# the recommended combination of all downloads works best and is the quickest# Make sure you check the box in the wizard to set up the computer # the printer should already be on the network#
It may also help to reboot each computer after the downloads and updates are completed. Also set up for auto updates as this will keep the printer software up to date.
Drivers, Utility software and firmware downloads are available on line at Epson.com. #There is also a recommended single download of a combination of all of the newest printer drivers and utilities for your OS ... your windows Operating System will automatically be detected)
Once you get the newest updated drivers and utility software loaded into each computer that is on your network the use is flawless and one can select and adjust printer / scanner/ copy / fax settings remotely from each of the network computers as well as from the printer keyboard.
Manuals and instruction sheets including the user and administration Manuals are also available on line at Epson.com
Downloading the user and administration manuals and reading them can also help one use the printer correctly for any job with flawless operation
Quality of print depends on the printer settings, print quality, print head alignment, nozzle adjustments, and paper media . For best results, be sure that all settings, and adjustments are ideal and correct for the job.
Any abnormal loss of any one ink color during set up can be a printer malfunction and one should contact Epson tech services for help in determining further actions.
So far, all my wireless set up, networking, and operation tests have been very acceptable and any difficulties have been "operator related" .
Future reliability of all functions and operation is yet to be determined

Big Box for the Bucks

So it was time to shop again! I am a writer, and I do a lot of work with photos. My main old Epson R-280 needed a new driver (which I was unable to get), and the NX-215 continually clogged for lack of use. An exhaustive search through the major brands, studying users' reviews and those by the pros again brought my focus back to Epson. With my short list narrowed down to seven, all included in the Top Ten by at least one pro, I began following up on ads. With an attractive sale price on the 4630, accompanied by a nice trade-in allowance, I moved up from the lower tier of machines. So glad I did. The quality of print and the quiet speed are far superior to anything I've had in 24 years. I even got past my fear of things wireless with a quick and successful connection to both computers! It scratches a few itches I don't have, but I'm very impressed with the scratches I need. Now I'm most interested in seeing how the mileage turns out.

So far I am very satisfied with this printer. I like having the ability to scan and copy legal size documents. I also am very pleased with its photo printing capability. I do have one complaint. When using ADF for scanning and/or copying, a thin, sharp, black line appears, running through the image. However, the line does not show up when I place the original on the glass. I hope this problem can be corrected.

Setup went like a charm once I knew one thing

This printer setup so easily once I found out that I need to touch the input on the screen to get it to move from screen to the next. Once I had that information, this bad boy was up and running like a charm. Easy setup for a multi-function printer ever and I have setup a bunch. The wireless setup had me wondering who else was working on it because it did everything for me - certainly not use to that.
If is prints as well as the setup went, gee what a great printer for the price.

EPSON Printer works well

We have a small business, but, do a lot of printing, copying, and scanning. We had been using XX Brand for many years but kept getting a line down the paper whenever we made copies or scanned (not with printing) . . . we kept upgrading the XX Brand printers and the same line appeared over time (3 upgrades!). We swithed to the EPSON and have been very happy with the printer functionality, speed, and quality! Glad we made the switch!!
