Haven't made up my mind

Need more detailed instruction sheet. No clear directions are given as to plugging in cords since there are many locations on the printer. At this time, I can not print from my ipad. The instructions for setting up this feature should be included with the printer. I do like the print quality so far.

Printe For Home Office
on November 20, 2014

I think this is a great small home office printer. Because it is an INKJET it is not ideal for a lot of printing. I bought it about 4 months ago and it is already low on ink. Great scanner and fax as well as printer. I am glad that I bought this printer and I would recommend it to everyone.

Positive Experience

My previous multi-function printer croaked and I needed another right away. I had not previously owned an Epson printer. Setup was fairly smooth. What did I not expect? 1. Software is not included in the box. The CD is just a program that directs your Web browser to the Epson Web site (where the software is downloaded). This is an interesting way to deal with constantly-changing software. However, had I been at an off-Internet location (which for me is common) this would have been a horrible problem. 2. I had to repeat WiFi setup 12 times before it worked. I tried a number of suggestions posted on the Web. None of them worked. I did all the usual contortions: Power on-off the printer. Power on-off the WiFi access point. Re-enter all the setup info. Use the Wizard. Do not use the Wizard. Etc., etc. This is extremely annoying and time consuming. Epson needs to look at this situation. There are numerous reports of this problem with new Epson printers. Something is not right with the WiFi interface on their printers.
On other notes: 1. The printer is VERY LOUD when printing. I did not expect this at all. My 6-year old multi-function (non-Epson) was much quieter (and just as fast). 2. Ink cartridge installation is troublesome. When the ink cartridge carriage "goes home" part of the top locking bar (that holds the cartridges in place) rests under a ledge so you can't open it. Hence you cannot install/remove the ink cartridges! Also, the carriage WILL NOT MOVE. So you can't work around this situation. Why make changing ink cartridges so difficult? This is something that needs to be very easy, not a royal pain. 3. The supplied power cord is quite short. Be prepared to buy an extension cord.

Set-up Only

The multiple poor reviews about set-up concerned me. I bought this printer anyway, since I could return it if I had to. The WF-3640 comes with a large sheet of paper with pictures to tell you how to set-up. The Quick Guide has little in it, but lists the URLs for additional online resources. I do not have an Apple product computer. I followed the pictures carefully, making sure that I understood before messing about, used the online guide also, and had absolutely no problems. I set up the ink, paper, wireless connection, fax connections and then copied, printed, and scanned. No problems; Very easy!!

Slow start

The set up instructions were written by a very experienced person with this model. So he or she made a lot of assumptions. Primarily with the cartridge installation as to what to peel off and not to touch.
Initially printing was awful, but once, I ran the cleaning heads cycle three times , it printed like a charm, but prior to that it was very upsetting.
I am happy now.

Wireless Setup Epsom WF-3640
on December 28, 2014

Wireless setup for the Epsom WF-3640 was an absolute breeze. I always shied away from wireless printers because I thought it would be too difficult for my meager computer skills. Just be sure you have your correct network name (SSID) and password. This info should be on your hard drive and will also be printed on your wireless tower. Setting up printing, scanning and fax features (using 1 phone line) took a matter of minutes for my desktop and laptop. All you need with wireless is a power source. You can move your printer anywhere within your wireless range and the only cord you need is the power cord. Will shortly add mobile devices ..... smart phone, tablets, etc. Hope it will be just as easy. You can literally print from anywhere in the world. I could not be more satisfied.
