Very disappointed in the quality of photo printing

I bought this a month ago. I've been working on photo scrapbooking. After adjusting for the highest quality and selecting the photo paper, the quality is still not good.

Beware of the Error Code: 0x97

Unfortunately, this is a recurring problem with this Epson model and it is inevitable. Worse yet, if you are out of warranty (lucky me) and have made an investment in ink and this printer.....up in smoke!

after replacing the first expensive ink cartridge the ink printer is not printing correctly, with lines all over the place and colors not even.

This has got to be the worst printer I've ever owned. Do Not Buy It!!!!! It will not scan properly and although the printer is on I keep getting an error message to turn the printer on and that it is offline...

My experiance with the Epson WF-3640
on July 22, 2014

My initial experiance was not so great. As I was going through the set up of the brand new printer I heard a loud "snap" and the printer passed away. Took it back to Best Buy and they immediatly gave me a new one. This one set up perfectly! Easy to use, prints very good quality and so far seems to not be using excessive ink for the work produced. It is fast. Took a while to get it working with the WIFI but that is mainly due to the very poor and skimpy set up instructions. I also so far have not been able to scan from the printer control panel to the computer. I can command a scan from the computer which will then appear on the computer but trying from the control panel it does not find the computer. Again this may be due to the lack of any detailed documentation. This printer badly needs better instructions packaged with it for initial complete set up. Over all I am quite satisfied with the machine and would give it 5 stars except for the poor documentation and the initial failure. There is on line documentation available from Epson but again it does not address the problem of not being able to scan from the printer to the computer.

Disappointed

I am disappointed in my new Epson copier/fax machine because it goes through ink faster than I can purchase it. The ink cartridges are expensive too, making this a very costly machine to operate. At this point, I cannot justify my purchase in any way.

Quick set-up -good printing, intuitive

After reading a lot of on-line reviews, I settled on the Epson Workforce 3640 for my new business. Setting up the printer was very quick and easy, using the CD and on-line prompts. Warning - the set-up instructions are all pictures and need to be examined very carefully when inserting the ink cartridges and paper. This is good because there are so many possible languages. However, be careful and pay attention to the pictures! There is a film on one side of the print cartridges that must NOT be removed. You need to follow the prompts carefully and REMOVE the paper trays to make the needed changes for plain paper. If you race through the directions, you may miss these important details. Loading the paper for the first time takes a moment of focus. Although plain paper would likely be the default for most people, the top paper tray was set up for photos and the bottom paper tray was set for an odd European paper size. It took me about a minute to figure out the fax. After I noticed the telephone line connection on the back left side, it was easy. Overall, very good and easy to use printer for a small business or home office. Good job, Epson!
