Very diffucult to set up.Instructions should have pictures for various drawers and where to put the paper for the fax.How to send a fax was not explained.I have had other all in one printers that were a snap to set up.I should return it to where I bought it,and get an all in one I can understand. serial number

I am a recent purchaser of a new Epson printer, WF3640.It is a beautiful printer, compatible with my iMac, OS Mavericks, and not too big.Puts out beautiful work, print and color.
My experience in setting it up did require a call to Apple Support but that was probably something others could do without it. Got to follow directions of the download perfectly and get the right one.
The only big problem I had was with the serial number, which is usually on the back of the item. The number on the back was not that number, and I couldn't register the printer because that number was invalid. I finally found it on the box. It was worth the hunt.

Pure Aggravation Through and Through

This printer had all the right features for the right price, but if something sounds too good to be true...
1. The print quality is just acceptable. This is the first time I bought a new printer and have been UNDERWHELMED by the print quality.
2. I don't understand why when I want to make copies I have to press the copy button twice, basically it needs confirmation that I really want it to copy each and every time, more if printing double-sided. Why is that necessary? Who does that? It's annoying, particularly when you have several copies to make.
3. The rear feed tray - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! For one, you can only load one sheet at a time, which is very inefficient, but what makes it worthless is the fact that I have to stand there and load and reload the same sheet in that tray 4-5 times before it will actually print. I am baffled as to how that made it past the product testing phase prior to mass production because it is a PATHETIC excuse for a paper tray.
4. It doesn't matter what you set your default printing preferences to, this printer refuses to settle for anything other than standard factory settings, meaning I have to manually tell it how I want it to print every time. No more quick printing with this thing.
5. It will randomly select between using paper tray 1 or 2 when printing, even when you specify which tray to print from. This monstrosity ate up half a package of expensive specialty paper because following directions is simply not in it's programming.
6. After having this printer for 1 month, it has randomly decided it will no longer print from Google Chrome. No, it insists that the printer is not properly set up now, or not on the network and there is apparently no way to appease it, so I have to SAVE EVERYTHING to a PDF, THEN I can print from the internet.
7. Scanning - that's a whole lotta NOPE. Oh you'll think it's working, alright. It does a very convincing job of acting like it is scanning your documents, but once you try to pull it up on your computer, you will see that you've been had. Your scan is now in a virtual black hole, and apparently there is no possible way to redirect the scanner to save it elsewhere.
It is a minor miracle that I have not yet smashed this monstrously huge, worthless, waste of space yet, but needless to say, I am returning it ASAP. Adults deal with enough stressful and ridiculous stuff every day as is. Ain't nobody got time for that from a printer!

Revised Review of the WF-3640
on February 3, 2015

The WF-3640 I purchased was returned after three or four days. My first impression as I unpacked the unit was it is not very sturdy, the paper trays were very thin, with some difficulty inserting them into the main body, the ink cartridges were poorly made and there was real difficulty inserting them and did not set up well in location. There was a thin plastic piece over the "eye" of the cartridges which I could not remove and there was no indication if this plastic film should have been removed. Also, after many, many attempts trying to print envelopes from the rear slot I was not successful. I followed the instructions religiously. The last problem was for some reason the unit "uninstalled" itself, this never happened to me and I have installed many printers. Bottom line, poor construction, poor materials, very poor instructions even after downloading user manual. sorry

Four Units -- And None Have Worked!
on October 28, 2014

I am on my 4th unit and still do not have a working printer! The first unit worked for about three weeks, then had an error code that said to power off then back on. It just stopped being able to be powered on at that point. Second unit worked for a couple of days then had an error code 0x9D. The third replacement unit kept having errors -- never even got to put in ink cartridges, let alone print anything. Got a brand new unit -- can't get past an initial error code of 0x8E.
That's three trips to my FedEx shipping location to return the units and more than four weeks without a printer.
Service people are polite, but come on! Shouldn't a product in today's world work out of the box? Four units with problems?
AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!

No Manual
on January 6, 2015

My friend bought a Work Force computer and received with it a 40 page manual to assist her with the various features. I bought amore expensive model...and got no manual. Which means each time I want to learn about another WF3640 feature...I must go on line and try to fine the correct section of the massive list of items there. Tried that to learn to print two sided items...and never did locate the correct information. Surely, Epson can include the basic forty page item with my printer. Had I known it wasn't there I would have looked at another brand.

Totally frustrated

Unfortunately I cannot accurately rate this printer since I still haven't been able to connect it to my Apple laptop, wirelessly or directly! After several attempts I resolved to simply do all of my work at my job temporarily until I figure out what to do. After researching printers this one seemed to be the one that would service my needs the best so I would like to keep it rather than go through the hassle of returning it and purchasing another one. Several hours spent on a weekend following directions and jumping through hoops until finally just giving up!

Restart Every Time to Connect

I've had an epson before and wanted an upgrade but this was a disgrace. I have to turn the machine off every time I want to print something because otherwise it shows as offline and if I turn it on from sleep mode it still does not connect to my computer. DO NOT BUY THIS. This connection problem alone makes it not worth it. I'm on a Mac and maybe that may be a trend but I'm not sure.
