Poor instructions for setting up the WF3640
on January 28, 2015
Posted by: Anonymous
from No. California
I just retired a WP 4540 with many years of service very satisfied, certainly from my H/P products My 4540 started to leak ink on the paper. Purchased the 3640 and find the installation instructions very lacking in the basic setting up of the machine. Should not be rocket science. Cannot get the machine to print, and no instructions on what buttons to push for self help.

EPSON Printer Wireless WF 3640
on January 31, 2015

I received my printer as a gift. I was excited because I would be able to fax, print double sided and print wireless. Well my concerns began when I opened the box to discover no USB cable or telephone cord were included. SO off to the store I go. Purchased those items to return to setup....well the ink cartridge case overlaps under the frame of the printer making it difficult to open to insert the cartridges! After a fewwww minutes of struggling, didn't want to break it, I was able to open the cover. The challenge was to close the cover after inserting the ink cartridges....this is a issue. Other than that I have a new printer.

Don't buy Epson
on April 24, 2015

This printer has been the worst purchase our office has made. The first two that were sent to us had to be sent back because they didn't work right out of the box. We kept getting error codes. The third one worked for a couple of months and then the ink wasn't printing well. I tried replacing the cartridges (even though it said they were over half full), ran the cleaning cylces, had our IT guy come and look it over. Nothing seemed to work. Now the only thing that comes out of it is blank paper. I'm calling epson and hoping we can get our money back so we can go elsewhere.

tech support

Tech support helped me install the printer. She was very knowledgeable but I had a problem with her accent. I had to ask her what she said with almost every sentence. Somehow we got through it because she knew what she was doing.

A few glitches - Preset options are not presets
on July 25, 2015

from Fort Lauderdale, FL
When using the scanner on the printer the "Preset" refuses to allow PDF as a preset, always reverts to JPG, so the presets are not presets, you must always go in and re-select PDF. When using the scanner from your MacBook, the software also does not have "Preset" scanning. These little time-wasters make it really annoying to use, otherwise the quality of scanning and printing is pretty good. I would recommend this printer only if the fix the issues noted above, otherwise you can probably find a similar product without these daily annoyances.

WF 3640 drops out
on August 27, 2015

I bought the Epson because I had great luck with a Epson V500 Photo Scanner. I have had nothing but trouble with the Epson 3640 since I bought it. My Macbook Pro and HP Desktop routinely tell me that I am not connected.

Same old All-In-One with Different Brand and Model
on September 1, 2015

I have a home business. This is my fourth all-in-one printer. They all seem to be the same, but with a different brand and model number.
In all fairness the basics work fine, if that is what you want. So what are my problems?
1. Open the box, you are afraid to take it out. It looks like it will break if you touch it. Everything but the power cord is plastic.
2. Set up, beyond the most basic, is very problematic. We just added a firewall router. Two days later I am still working on the printer.
I can find user guides that use the tiny screen, but none that use the web client. The spelling is terrible, the grammar is awful.
When the author set to write was he told to write a user's guide or a reference manual. The subject wanders back and forth. No detail, or reference on how to solve a problem if it doesn't follow the documentation.
3. The printer is obviously designed for a different culture. The control panel seems to be laid out in an odd fashion. The setup of web client is odd.
4. No help if you need to do a factory reset. What are the defaults, how do I access it? Where are my stored settings?
5. The WORST problem for last. DO NOT BUY THIS if you are going to use it with an Apple, or MacBook Pro product. The driver used by EPSON/Apple smells up the place. On a MBP the best you can get for standard paper is maybe six presets.. In MS there seems like there are almost 100.
Don't try to create a customer paper type on Apple because the key to the paper description is overwritten with blanks after your create it. Therefore all of your work for new custom page is gone. Apple has been altered and promised a fix back in Feb 2015, and I am still waiting.
In an Apple setup the printer never seems to remember that it is a default. Try to print something using standard Apple Applications! Maybe ten minutes later, when you don't get your document, you will see that the print page lists the printer as: ANY PRINTER. Change it back to the default and it will work.
If you have the time to play with it, find the workarounds, and don't have an Apple, it is not a bad printer for a decent price.
Good luck.
