Could be better

Disappointed in a few things. The clock does not light and we used the old microwave clock as the only kitchen clock. I understand it was an energy saving thing, but why then have a nightlight. Also, the outside finish isn't staying clear and shiny. I've tried all different cleaners.

Gret Features!

This was a replacement for a 9 year old Profile. It has all the same features that I am used to using so it was super easy to get used to. My other one still worked fine but we replaced all our kitchen appliances at once so they would match. I like the new look the Cafe' series brings to my kitchen.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Horrible Vent Cover Quality

Immediately after the microwave was installed, we noticed that the vent cover was hanging off... the plastic tabs were both broken. We are on our second vent cover - and today discovered that one of the tabs is broken again! I don't understand the issue. (Although, I see others have had the same experience - unfortunately found these negative reviews after the purchase). We ordered this and the matching range... neither were cheap, so we expected better quality... especially with the GE name. Very disappointed in this product.

both of my old GE profile microwave/convection had a broil feature. I just both the cafe for home and a GE profile for a vacation house. Neither have a broil feature. How do you broil meat on it

Although this model does not come with a broil feature, Convection cooking would be the best setting to choose when baking or browning is desired. What a let down! Very disappointed =(

The handle on my GE Cafe Series Microwave is pealing off. After searching for a replacement handle, it appears that I won’t be able to order just the handle but instead will be required to replace the entire door.

Cheaply made

Very disappointed in the quality. Overall oven works great but the handle started peeling and it makes the product look very cheap. Also can not find a replacement handle which is also disappointing. I do not understand why the handle material is not the same as my Fridge and stove which are also Cafe models. Very disappointed.

Cheap plastic components everywhere

This microwave is extremely annoying to use: you have to press "time cook" then rotate the knob, press it in, then you can finally press "start". But even worse, this microwave is mostly constructed out of cheap plastic junk. Our unit is 4 years old, and here are the broken parts: - Plastic tabs holding the top bar (with the GE logo on it) on the microwave. Replacement costs about 1/8 of a new microwave, for this cheap plastic bar covered in stainless steel. - Door switches. Replacement costs should be cheap here if I can find something second-hand. - Door latch hardware, which snapped since we keep having to open/close the door due to the bad switches.
My advice? Avoid it.

Display is too dim and the handle is peeling.

The feature are fine and the exhaust is top notch. My display is so dim it is near impossible to read during the day. It is ok at night. It has been this way since it was first installed. The handle is peeling now and it looks like it will be an expensive repair. Is there a newer model that fits the same space and has a similar exhaust?

Hi there - Thanks for the feedback. We're glad to hear that overall you were pleased with your microwave's features and exhaust. The control panel being too dim and the handle peeling aren't something we would expect to happen so soon into its lifespan and we truly do apologize.
All 30" Over-the-Range Microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our current 30" Over-the-Range microwave models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" Over-the-Range microwave model.
