Microwave works, HORRIBLE part quality
on April 29, 2017

We bought this Microwave just under 3 years ago, and for the past year the "faux chrome" around the handle has been peeling. We attempted to contact GE through emails in the past but to no avail. The worst part is the handle is made to look and feel like it's chrome and nobody ever tells you that this "Over-the-range" Microwave can't actually be over the range because clearly the fake garbage handle can't handle the heat. On top of that just in general all of the parts are absolute garbage, the top part that is used for venting is made up of plastic that could break or snap from someone just poking it. I wish I was here to give this product a good review, and if not for the quality of the parts I would have nothing negative to say.

Handsome and full featured - a little pricy

Installed along with CGS990 double oven Cafe mate after new hardwood and granite. At the showroom I thought there was a bit too much stainless on the face - but it looks very nice over the range and built into the cabinets. I wanted the convection oven capability to eliminate a large-ish convection/toaster oven consuming my granite countertop. I wasn't sure I'd like the knob control - but find it easy to use and intuitive now. Installation was fairly easy (we replaced a similar unit mounted in the same spot#. The only glitch was installing the charcoal filter #vented inside) - it just sort of lays at an angle in the cavity instead of firmly snapping into place. When you kick the fan on it snaps upright sharply. Dealer and GE help line verified that that's the way it works - weird. Considered the Advantium version but was concerned about additional complexity, reliability, and cost.

Good unit with a few disappointments

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I picked this microwave more because it matched our amazing GE Cafe gas double oven range. You know, matching handles and color and all. So, my first issue was the price...a little pricey for an OTR microwave, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought the Cafe Range. I've used this for 7 months and it has worked great. No issues. I'll admit I have anxiety due to several complaints about this microwave's predecessor having major issues with the control panel. Fingers crossed, all good so far. But, my BIGGEST complaint and really the only reason for the four stars...the "stainless steel" on the handle is actually a film/wrap that surrounds a white plastic handle. And, of course, it started to peel off. Wow, one of the most expensive Microwave's on the planet and they cheaper out on the one piece that is stressed the most??? I have no confidence in the overall quality now. I hope I don't regret this purchase decision in the long run. To GE's credit, they took the warranty service call without issue - I honestly thought they'd try to get out of the repair by telling me its normal wear and tear so its not covered. They come out next Thursday so hopefully we have no issue.

Design issues with keypad
on April 22, 2013
Posted by: GinaD
from Illinois, USA
Steam from the stove top has tended to make the microwave handle too hot, and the keypad stop working. The keypad has not worked infrequently over the last couple of years, and now has quit working entirely. For a fairly new microwave, we had issues from the beginning, and are now calling for repair. Ugh,

Handle Peels
on November 10, 2017
Posted by: Lorianncobrien
We bought this microwave two years ago. Within 6 months, the handle started to peel. It is made of plastic, yet, it is made to sit above a stove. We have a brand new kitchen, and my microwave makes the kitchen look shabby.

Door handle sticker peeling off
on November 29, 2012
Posted by: kiyahoo

We have owned this microwave less than a year and, as other reviewers have posted, the handle sticker is buckling and peeling off. It is an over-the-range microwave so why manufacture something that can peel off when steam is present? We use the fan every time we use the gas cook top which is underneath it however, we still have the buckling issue. Service is coming out next week and I will update based on the outcome......

Better as vent and microwave than oven
on February 9, 2013

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this over-the-range hood/microwave/oven as part of a kitchen remodel in May of 2012, so it would match the entire line. I do not cook a lot, and I have been using and comparing the oven in the microwave /oven to the oven in the regular gas oven/stove with the bottom baking drawer. Although I expected the smaller area of the baking drawer and microwave to take less time to heat and cook than heating up the large oven, I have experienced that the temps inside are significantly colder than set. After trying to bake items that did not cook properly, I put an oven thermometer inside and it was reading 320 rather than 350. I plan on trying to re-set the temps using the instructions, or I will use an oven thermometer from now on. Perhaps the small capacity makes the heat rush out when I open the door, which is going to be a negative using a small oven space.
The microwave and hood work very well, though, and since I did not intend to use this for primary baking, it should be just fine. I do appreciate the uniform look of the appliances, and I have had no trouble with cleaning. Having to take the plate and roller out and replace it with a metal rack is a minor hassle, but I am fortunate to have a cabinet over the microwave to store the racks in when not in use.
My expectations for this product were that it work and function well, but I did not expect top-of-the-line performance since it is not a top-of-the-line product. Some of the reviewers' comments regarding the quality of the stainless steel compared this with much more expensive products, so in my view, you should expect to take a bit more care with this stainless steel then on a more expensive product such as a Thermador or Wolf. However, for the money, I think the quality is fine.
