Ok for a starter fitness tracker

I think this is a good inexpensive fitness tracker with lots of good features to figure out if you really want to use or need a tracker. I like that there is an interactive app that works with the gear fit to track the results. A computer version would be nice to view the results in a larger format.
As a pedometer I think it is excellent. I like that I can set a goal and I want to walk more during the day to reach the goal. I like that there are exercise settings that goals can be set for those as well. My problem with the gear fit for me is that I initially got it to track my workout. which is cardio kickboxing. There isn't a setting that can track this activity accurately and even with an app that supposedly works with the gear fit it is highly inaccurate ( and needs a separate heart monitor device and seems unable to share any information with the S Health app).
I like the interactions with the phone, notifications for messages, calls and emails are nice & convenient. I can do a quick standard reply from the gear fit without using my phone or monitor for important messages/calls while working out. I've used the timer function several times. It's handy to have it on your arm. I also like that the alarms set on my phone will vibrate the gear bit when they go off to wake me.
It is very durable I've worn it all day at work, out running errands, during kickboxing and self defense classes. So far I've only managed a small scratch on the screen. I thought it was going to be hard to keep it scratch free but it holds up nicely.
I think this was a good start for me to try out a highly functional tracker to figure out what kinds of features I want and need out of a fitness tracking device.
Pros: Inexpensive, Bright display, Durable, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations

Huge fan of Samsung products, this one is no different. I do however hope there is a software update soon. There needs to be some tweeks on this to make it a major contender/necessity on everyones wrist. First there are only a few apps to download and us on the watch that most people will use. These apps are accessable through app connect, but should be able to be put on the main scroll through screen or swapped out with other built in apps i dont use. Second some of the add on apps to download should be done by samsung and included like phone dialer, calendar, and calculator. Also for some reason some features from s-health are not acessable from the fit. I cannot track my weight from the watch. You can adjust it on the fit profile, but does not track it on s-health. It should also have quick inputs for food/calorie intakes to track on your s-health app as well. I mean this is common sense it is to be used in conjunction with s-health so it should do all the features of s-health. Also needs an automatic sleep tracker. Sometimes I forget to turn it on or off. Lastly the band comes detached often because it does not clip in. I know there are little rubber add ons to buy for it, but how about make a full band replacement for people who want an actual clasp. Other than those minor complaints this product is great. I get alerts from apps I choose on it. Can read my texts and respond easily when my hands are full. (Dont use email they are way too long compared with txts) Great feature is the triple tap for emergency help. I know of times when this would have been useful for people, like my sister when she was at a bank when it was robbed. She could have alerted someone with out being obvious grabbing a phone. If Samsung fixes those things this would be a nearly perfect watch. It is great looking, inexpensive and highly useful. I get comments all the time asking what it is and most people think it cost a ton of money, but are shocked at the low price.
Pros: Inexpensive, Realistic color, Bright display, Lightweight, attention grabbing, great looking
Cons: needs to be fully integrated with s-health, needs more default apps, needs a better clasp.

With the understanding that this item can only sync with Samsung phones I purchased it. I have thoroughly enjoyed using the Gear Fit. The text and phone call notifications are very useful. Many of the tracking features such as, sleep, cycling, pedometer, heart rate are really great. It has been a topic of conversation among my family and friends. Very nice product.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight

I primarily use my Gear Fit to track my heart rate while running. However, I wear it throughout the day and get lots of inquiries. I'm surprised by how few people have heard of it.
I've compared it to my chest strap, and the two devices are only a few BPMs apart. My Gear Fit has been very reliable and the features are exactly what I was looking for in a smartwatch. Would love more detailed heart rate info (charts/graphs) so I get a better sense of the range/peaks during workouts, or if Samsung would open up heart rate info to other fitness apps like Endomondo or Strava.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight, responsive, generally accurate pedometer, generally accurate heart rate, striking design appearance, sharp display, personalization options, durable display; not a scratch on the screen, functional
Cons: charging cradle no longer clips to watch, significant silver accent paint chipping
I would recommend this to a friend!

Things it does, it does well

I bought 2 of these, one for myself and one for my girlfriend. After a couple months we have a good handle on them and what they can do. For me, I bought them to track our sleep. I also liked that they tracked fitness and worked will with our Samsung Galaxy S6's. Unfortunately, the exercise options they can track are severely limited to Walking, Running, Hiking, and Cycling. With Cycling your phone has to be paired and nearby to track with the GPS. I wish that the Gear Fit could track every activity you can track with the Samsung S Fitness app. Specifically, I play both basketball and hockey and it can basically only track the steps for the pedometer and the heart rate. I wish that Samsung had continued system development for these devices. Unfortunately the Samsung Gear Fit doesn't run Tizen like most of the rest of Samsung Wearables. This makes it a hard platform to write independent applications for since the platform is not open. You can write companion apps to run alongside the phone, but no native apps. I would have also liked an inactivity reminder function on the Gear Fit.
Pros: Inexpensive, Durable, Lightweight, sleep activity tracking
Cons: Did not meet expectations, limited exercise tracking
