SUHD: The new breed of LED TV's

I got my new UN65JS8500 last Tuesday after I accidentaly broke my XBR55X850A, well accidents happens. Anyway, Samsung's new screen panels are now called SUHD, these 10-bit panels can produce 64x times more accurate color and sharper resolution thanks to the Nano Crystal color displays compare to current 8-bit UHD panels from other brands. Also these sets are capable of High Dynamic Range (Peak Illuminator PRO) so that means when the content becomes available you will be able to see more striking detail in darkest areas of a picture, brighter whites and wider color accuracy thanks to DCI P3 color space. Now, the new TIZEN OS is good but not great, even that this set has a quad core processor sometimes you I have seen some hiccups and a bit of lag. But I guess this is something that can be fix by future firmware updates. Speaking of lag I have been able to play with my PS4 and XBOX ONE with no lag problems. The remote control on the other hand left to much to be desire it's hard to get use to a remote with out numerics keys for quick channel surf, it's like playing with a Wii controller but with out the fun factor. The JS8500 includes the One Connect Mini as oppose to the 9000 series which include the One Connect Box with more input options and future proof of the hardware. Also this set is a LED Edge backlight display as his more expensive brother the JS9000, only the JS9500 has a Full Arrange Local Dimming capabilities. And last but not least is the obvious, is not "curved" but Samsung was extremely wise to keep the flat version only to the US market, but all of the other great features from the 9000 series are present.
Now picture performance is another story, this is “closest" thing to OLED, and that’s what Samsung is trying to achieve with the Nano Crystal Color which is Samsung’s version of Quad Dot technology. Once you properly calibrate your set be ready to be amazed. I watched The Dark Knight Pacific Rim and Transformers 4: Age of Extinction, three of my favorite Preference movies on Blu Ray. The amount of detail, color and the deepest blacks are some of the best I have ever seen on a LED display. Sharpness controls are tight and for those who rarely love 240hz Motion Rate this set is almost halo-free. Luckily apps like Netflix & YouTube (just to name a few) have true 4K content and thanks to the latest HEVC H.265 codec the JS8500 is capable to blow your iris with super sharp streaming picture. Also Samsung’s new SUHD panels video inputs support HDMI 2.0 & HDCP 2.2 protocol meaning that it will be ready for the next generation of 4K Blu Ray players that are coming in Fall 2015. The sound from this TV set is really good, at least you can get clear dialogue and crisp sound from such a narrow frame, but for those who like it loud is always better with a soundbar or AV receiver. One more thing, the JS8500 has one of the best 4K upscale resolution from any current video devices. 1080p signals come alive with super sharp clarity and with ultra rich colors that pop from the screen.
I can safely say that the JS8500 is the best 2015 (Flat) LED 4K TV out there. Even with minor drawbacks like the remote control, sometimes buggy OS and speaker sound, Samsung once again has delivered a new breed of LED technology in such of completed and beautiful package.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, 4k upscale
Cons: sometimes slow and buggy tisen os
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worth the money!

This review is based on two weeks experience with the UN55JS8500. Picture quality is superb. 4K video from Youtube is like looking out a window. Source for other broadcasting is Charter cable. The picture quality is just as advertised -- near 4K resolution.
I'm using an external home entertainment system for sound, but the audio quality from the TV itself is much better that I expected, based on other reviews that I read.
The smart remote is very functional, once you get the hang of it -- not immediately intuitive.
I have an older DVD player that uses a component cable rather than HDMI connections. The TV comes with the gender cable that allows component cable connection directly to the back of the set. I should mention that there are four connections that do not use the one mini box: component, audio in (for component), ethernet and digital audio out. Consequently, those wires route though a plastic routing strip on the back of the set, so they can be hidden from view. No big deal, but does require somewhat longer cables to make the run. HDMI and optical plug into the one mini box.
The only deficiency upon which I can comment is the lack of access to the Watch ESPN app. There is a work around however to any app that the Samsung won't accept. The mirror casting allows you to turn your phone into the video source, so anything you can watch on your phone you can watch on the Samsung..
I did a fair amount of research before I made this purchase. I spent a few extra dollars to get the top of the line , but glad I did -- great product.
Pros: Realistic color, Bright display, Built-in speakers, smart remote

One of the best gifts I've had in awhile. I love the realism of 240Mhz and the Bright, vibrant colors. Definitely a must have. Sound is top notch. Barely to no adjustments out of the box.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Realistic color

Great picture

One connect hub failed after two weeks of use. Failure puts the TV into an endless loop of updating software, even though the software is up to date. A hard reset of the TV does not correct the problem. It takes 5-10 days to receive a replacement one connect. Guess I will have to go to a friends house to watch the NFL playoffs.
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, one connect failed
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Awesome TV!

The picture on this TV just pops right off the screen and pulls you right in for a great viewing experience.
Got my 4k streaming from Netflix going & it is even better than I thought it would be.
The only reason I only gave 4 stars for features is the TV browser doesn't support a flash player, something I feel should be a staple for technology this new. Still I am very happy with the TV.
Pros: Realistic color, Bright display
Cons: tv internet browser could be better

Great picture but....

Overall very satisfied with this purchase. Picture is outstanding right out of box, cant' wait for actual 4k and calibration. However tv stand is disappointing, tv tilts to one side and cannot correct other than adding padding to one side. Also only one pair of glasses for a $4,000 tv?
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color
Cons: poor stand and only 1 pair of glasses
I would recommend this to a friend!
