This thing is a powerhouse, and it's turned my home into a veritable bakery since I got it six months ago. At least a few times a week, it's asked to get kneading. Most of the breads I make are high-gluten with stiff, difficult dough, and it breezes through with no trouble at all.
My only real concern is that the tilt-head mechanism doesn't lock down quite as tightly as I'd like it to. When working stiff dough, the head wobbles a bit, no matter how I adjust things. I've asked around, and this seems to be relatively normal. But it would go a long way toward making me feel better if Kitchenaid at least said, officially, that some wobble is to be expected. As it is, I spent the first few months worrying the unit was broken.
If you're obsessive like I am, I'd recommend circumventing the issue altogether and getting a bowl-lift model instead of a tilt-head. But for those looking to save on space (and cost), you're not going to go wrong with this machine.

This Artisan, 5qt. stand mixer is superb. It's wonderful to have a high quality appliance that is reliable, well built and will last forever. It mixes like a dream. However, we have most enjoyed the grinder attachment, which is terrific for grinding cheese and meat - no more bone in your ground meat, when you grind quality cuts at home! I strongly recommend this product - you will never be disappointed.

I've been looking at these mixers for a while, even though I do most of my mixing by hand. I wanted something that my I could use with my granddaughter when she was "helping" me bake. I finally broke down and bought one. I will still mix by hand a great deal of the time, but sometimes, even when she's not around, I'll pull out the mixer. Thus far I only have the attachments that came with it, but appreciate that I could get a whole lot more.

I have had one one that was 30 years old and still going strong. Just wanted a new pretty one. Thanks KitchenAid for a great product

I have been cooking and baking since I was 9 years old and I never had the joy of a kitchen aid stand mixer. I finally got one for my 58th birthday and I love it. I have had kitchenaid hand mixers before but never a stand one. It sure is nice when you have to beat something for several minutes. Now i am spoiled. LOVE IT !!!
