Sure there are other stand mixers on the market, but one has to wonder why the KitchenAid has stood the test of time and is still the gold standard by which all others are measured.
I had always thought I didn't need a KitchenAid mixer because I didn't like to bake. I'm a home cook, love to cook and pride myself on cooking dinners at least 5 nights a week for a busy family with 2 teenagers! But my eyes were opened when I realized what all I could do with a KA mixer that didn't involve hours upon hours of switching cookie sheets in and out of the oven.
One of the first things my husband and I did was make pizza dough. We have several favorite recipes (the pizza dough recipe in the KA mixer's accompanying recipe booklet is a winner) for pizza dough, and the dough hook attachment works the dough into a beautiful, savory mixture.
I have used the mixer to mix dips for tailgating, among other uses. And believe it or not, I've even whipped my very own fresh whipping cream to go on top of a French silk pie. So, while I didn't think I liked to bake, having the KA mixer has made baking more of a reality in my home. Boy is my family ever happy about that!
My daughter just went off to college, and she asked for a hot pink KA mixer to go in her apartment. I quickly said no, but I still chuckle each time I use mine, thinking how smart she is to realize the value and need of the KitchenAid mixer!

All around great stand mixer

I love how easy and fast I can prepare recipes. I have both the steel and glass bowls. This makes it even easier to mix the wet ingredients and blend the dry ingredients separately before combining them together. Clean up is a breeze.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband bought me a new one after having one that has been used hard for 33 years. New one wobbles and sounds no better then my old one. Maybe that’s just how they are. A screw did fall out the 2nd time I used it. Husband put it back in. Saying that I still really like it. I really like the bigger bowl with the handle. What I don’t like at all is the new splash guard design, it is the worst design ever. I don’t understand when a product works great and then it gets changed to a crappie design, I just simply leave it off instead of using it because it’s that bad. It doesn’t stay in place on top of the bowl and the guard has a big opening that will let ingredients get flung out ( that is why the guard is, made to keep this from happening!) my old guard don’t fit with the new mixer. The beater paddle doesn’t scrape the sides or bottom of the bowl very good. I know you can buy a separate one that has a scraper on the side but I feel like the one that comes in the box with it should do the job and you don’t have to go buy a different one.

I absolutely love it. I bake a lot and always, always stirred my ingredients by hand. What a joy to have this mixer do all the work. It does it fast and it also scraps all the ingredients together for the edge of the bowl. When it is done the bowl is free of any loose ingredients as it stirred it all for me. Thank goodness I have it to make my baking that much more enjoyable.
