Despite having used my mom's mixer growing up, when I moved out on my own I needed too many other things to consider buying my own. I bought a cheap 'stand' mixer which was basically a hand mixer with a stand and bowl but stopped using it because it just didn't work well.
After being on my own for a few years I finally decided to get my own. These things are pricey but they seem to last forever. My mom's is 20-25 years old and still works like it did when it was new. And I'm really glad I did. This mixer is very powerful so it mixes things more thoroughly and more quickly than I can by hand or with a hand mixer. I can also get other ingredients ready as it is going which saves me time. The bowl shield is also nice since it keeps flour and such in the bowl (and my cat out of the bowl).
So I'm very glad I finally bought one of my own.

I have wanted a KitchenAid stand mixer for several years now, and finally received one this year as a Mother's Day gift. It's my favorite thing in the kitchen. It's better than I even expected it to be. I absolutely love it !!! It's great that you can add your ingredients and just walk away and let it mix. My family says now that I have this mixer that I make the best mashed potatoes. They come out so creamy and perfect now.

I bought this mixer about 2 weeks ago. I started with the 6 Quart Mixer, and although I liked it, it was too heavy to move from my cabinet. I decided on the Artisan 5 Quart, and although it's heavy also, it is more manageable. I've only used it once, but I am delighted with it, and I will probably use it again in the next week or so. I like to make bread every so often, and I am looking forward to using it to make my bread.

We purchased this item about a month ago and have been enjoying the various attachments. We have enjoyed the shedder for cheeze; the grinder for making our own speciality breakfast sausage; and the bread hook for our unique break. This is a unit that can do it all and more. Highly recomend purchase and trying a couple of the different attachments. The next one we are looking at is the ice cream maker.
