This is my first laser printer. I like the quality of the printed page and love the wireless capabilities. Excellent black and white printer.

Constantly having to reboot
on December 5, 2016

This printer does not play nice with apple! It goes to sleep 2 minutes after the last page printed which means if you need to print again the only way to wake it up is to shut it down. Total nightmare! Have been through the troubleshooting steps multiple times, but the issue constantly reoccurs. This is a huge nightmare!

This printer has a serious defect. It goes to sleep and then deep sleep as soon as you stop using it. There is no way to wake the printer from the sleep mode. If you try to print you get "the printer is not connected." The printer is connected, just asleep! Why is there no way to wake the printer when it is asleep? The only real way to wake this printer is to shut it down and restart it. You have to do this every time you take a break from printing.

Excessively tedious to pair with Wi-Fi router !

User must scroll tediously through an average of 18 ( 26 alpha+10 numerals) characters to select each character of what could be a long router password. I can think of several ways this could be done better. It would require some engineering, but users would greatly benefit. I will bet that a small team of engineers could find a way to allow user to connect a keyboard to the printer, temporarily, to input the wi-fi router password. I worked for a computer manufacturer and can imagine how this could be done at a reasonable cost. How about a USB port that could accept a flash drive with the password on it? I have several years experience with the 2270DW printer, which is easier to set up wirelessly. In other respects, this is a good-enough printer.

It's okay but not thrilled with it

The tiny hard copy manual is laughably useless for anything other than basic setup and the downloadable manual appears to be the exact same thing. It's annoying having to stop what I'm doing to google the problem and hope I can find an answer in the forums. This isn't an efficient process at all. It took me WEEKS to get the scanner option working. It wasn't being read by the WiFi, despite the fact that I was able to use wireless printing. Nothing I found seemed to help at all, so I kept tweaking the setting and eventually got it to work on my own but I have no idea how. The operation of this unit is not intuitive and there are far too many steps to accomplish anything other than direct printing, yet there is little to no instruction available. Mousing over a function button should bring up an explanation of what it does or how to use it, but there isn't even a name for the function most of the time. The ControlCenter4 interface is confusing and lacks any kind of instruction on how to use it. At least, if there IS information on its use, I haven't found it. Even printing has turned out to be a pain because labels have to be manually fed one at a time and running off a newsletter on printed paper turned out with the text printed on the back. While the labels are pulled in and then rolled over to come out upside down, the newsletter paper looks like it was pulled in and then pushed out in the same orientation. I haven't been able to figure out why yet, but I don't have time to stand there and feed in 30-40 sheets of paper one at a time. My last all-in-one was much more accessible and easy to use, but this time I didn't want a color printer, just black and white. I've had problems in the past with Brother technology but I thought I would give them another chance since it's been quite a while. I'm afraid this experience hasn't changed my previous opinion of Brother products.

Installation was difficult and frustrating as supplied diskette was not configured for Windows 10. This is quite unbelievable for brand new product. I spent hours on this before falling back on Brother support which was very good. You need to upgrade software sold with your product.
