Multiple problems over 4.5 years

Paid $3200 for this in 2014. Came home several times to water puddles on our hardwood floor. LG fixed the first problem but it was a battle. Next there was ice buildup and the motor sounded like a 747 taking off in our kitchen. Almost concurrently the ice maker stopped turning over and dumping the ice. Never again LG. Sticking with North American made products. Customer service was atrocious.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Too many poor features

My old fridge (18 years old) died and I had to get a new one fast. I have had the fridge for 7 weeks now.
The stainless steel exterior cannot be cleaned. There are always streaks.
The freezer is always frosted up, esp the top two drawers.
the door shelves are silly. They are all short, although there is a lot of space above them. The butter dish is very short -- all you can put in it are 3 sticks of butter, it is too short to stand them on end.
The shelves have a great deal of wasted space with the huge lip all around them.
If the produce drawers were one wide drawer instead of three small ones, the space would be much better utilized. The middle drawer is only about 4 " wide at the bottom. Much space is wasted.

Good fridge, so far, but ice dispenser does't work

So far, we like this refrigerator, but it does have a few drawbacks. On the bottom of the refrigerator portion, there are two drawers, for fruits & veggies, and the other for meats, or whatever you want. But you have to open both doors to open the right or left drawers, This does not seem like a good design.
Also, after only 2 and a half months, the ice dispenser in the door does not produce ice, not sure why. I will look at the directions material, and see if we can figure out why ice isn't being made.
Otherwise, we like the fridge very much.

Disappointed with the Smart Grid feature

Bought this refrigerator because of the sales pitch related to the Smart Grid feature. Saving energy is important, and thought this would be a nice extra. Simply download the app and the refrigerator will pair up with your home network, and your local power company.
After the install, come to find out, it can only be paired with an android device. What about the millions of customers who have iphones and ipads? They don't count?
So at least for now, it's an expensive feature that's totally unusable.
Too soon to rate the rest of the features. Hope they're better.

Poor design, with no inovative features.

1. Only 5 overall temp setting and 5 freezer to refrigerator ratios. Cannot keep freezer to -10 to 0 dgrees with freezing refrigerator. Cannot keep refrig from 35 to 40 degrees without keeping freezer at +10 to +15. So refrig either freezes or Icecream and other freezer items are soft.
2.Bottom door shelf usless. It is 1/2 depth of shelf above it so that it is impossible to see what is in it. Crispers should not project into door and would then allow for a full depth shelf in door. There is ample room in crispers to do this.
3. All shelfs are complete width of refrig so that if you have a certain odd size container you want to store, the entire shelf must be adjuested to accomodate that item. This makes for a lot of wasted space if you have just one or two items that are taller than average, the entire shelf has to be set for that item. Dual or 1/2 width shelfs prevent this waste.
4. This refrig was designed by an engineer for outside appearance and cost effectiveness. The person that designed it was not the primary cook/user in the home. I have been very disappointed with this refrigerator.
5. Five weeks old and the ice still has a chemical taste.
The postives are.
It looks nice inside and outside.
It is very quiet.

The primary reason I chose LG was that they are the only Manufacturer that builds the large top freezer model. Below would not let me choose that.

Freezer temperature controller in wrong location

COMMENTARY / FEEDBACK to the LG 23.8 c.f. Refrigerator / Top-Mount Freezer Unit:
It is stupid to locate the temperature controller of the LG 23.8 c.f. Refrigerator / Freezer Unit in the rear of the Freezer compartment. It belongs in the Refrigerator compartment and to be easily accessible.
