Failure before 5 years of use

I bought this fridge in early 2016. My family has enjoyed the fridge, and as the enthusiastic cook, I have been able to forgive the less-than-ample ice production and storage, the small produce drawers, and the broad lips on the back of each shelf that do limit actual storage space. I would still give this fridge a great review despite those things, because it is a beautiful design, it has good filtration of both air and water, and the interior is laid out nicely for my preferences. The lighting looks awesome and is effective.
However....
I have for years tried to make smart and educated choices when making large purchases. I did my best to study up on refrigerators when I purchased this one, and using Consumer Reports, reading many online reviews, and talking to friends and family who own or owned LG refrigerators, this unit was a safe bet. I bought it expecting a minimum of 5 trouble-free years, and kind of hoping that it would make it 10 or more, out of a trust I had developed for this brand.
Now, just over 3 years of service later, I like many others, frustratingly filled my curbside garbage bin with hundreds of dollars of perishable sauces, meats, cheeses, condiments, and frozen goods, which included frozen fish, chicken, etc...
I called LG and they put me in touch with a local certified repair outfit. Now that I am reading so many reviews and finding stories similar to my own, I am giving LG this chance to fix what appears to be an identified quality issue. I will come back and finish this review after I get service advice from the repair vendor and decide what to do. I really hope I can come back and give this fridge and LG the high mark I would hope to.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought the LG for the linear compressor's good reputation, so far so good. I really like how the ice maker is removable and can be emptied in an extra ice container. However I don't like the three small fruit and vegetable bins since they cannot hold full stalks of celery. One large vegetable bin and smaller fruit bin would be much more accommodating. Also, the french door's tension is set too tight and the doors slam shut easily. Other than that, the fridge is nice and spacious for being counter depth.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
