The compressor of early models had a design flaw which caused enough failures to merit a class action lawsuit. LG dealt with the issue (settled it) and even though my refrigerator did not fail until after the deadline in the settlement, they repaired mine in any case. Another minor flaw in the engineering is the access to the drain from moisture developed when the defrosting cycle occurs. The drain line is faily small (diameter) and can become clogged and cause water to flow out onto the base of the refrigerator. Not hard to wipe it up, but you have to remove essentially all the food in the freezer to remove the panels to get to clean out the clogged drain. Increasing the diameter of that drain pipe would likely avoid having to bring in an expert to clean it out. They were familiar enough with the problem to complete the cleanout in 20-30 minutes but it is not something that an amateur should do.

Compressor failed 6 years after purchase

Lasted only 6 years (almost exactly 6 years). Too bad I couldn't claim this under the huge class action suit that was rewarded for compressor failures within 5 years of purchase. So, I wish I had known that LG was notorious for failed compressors on their refrigerators.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] An amazing amount of space for a counter depth french door refrigerator. Well designed. Easy to clean. Display indicates temperature settings for the refrigerator and freezer compartments but unfortunately does not display the actual temperature. Had to replace the compressor after a little over two years.
Our French Door LG refrigerator fails to cool about every 2 years (4 failures in 7 years). Service was poor to non-existant first 3 or 4 yearsbut better last couple of years. The functional design is great but engineering is poor.

This is my second LG the first one stopped running after about 2 years and after several appointments they could not fix it so they gave us a lesser amount of money that we paid for it to buy a new one The second one started having problems also after a short time A technician came out7 times and replaced it with American parts it worked fine for several years and now we are experiencing problems again I have all LG products in a second home My gas range does not have a safety click if you accidentally hit the knob My husband and I almost died from the gas The fire and paramedics came to our home luckily we were in k I have lost large amounts of food I will never purchase an LG product again
