Changing Art is Never a Good Idea

George Lucas again unnecessarily altering his once classic films, now turning what was once 'perfect' into something of a joke (the only thing I could compare it to would be like painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa). I do not recommend this set whatsoever, and any true fan of the films probably won't either.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My 5 rating is for the filming-even with what I write below
Being a Star Wars fan since I saw the original February 1978 & a collector since August 1980 I rushed out to purchase this when it was released in 2004.
OK, I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SINCE I GOT IT. A POORLY PUT TOGETHER PACKAGE FOR THE SET. Who designed this? A pain to get in & out of. Silver or gold depending on wide or full screen. Looked boring to me.
Now, everyone has been & will continue to debate the changes to the films George made for the DVD package & when he did the “special editions” in 1997. Over all I like the changes in 1997. My favorite was to Empire EVEN THOUGH IN 2004 THOSE ADDITIONS I DID NOT LIKE. Just from what was done to the Bespin sets, windows, etc HATED the unnecessary line addition from Darth to the Emperor as was the unnecessary “Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival”. Why did this need to be added George? Then, of course TAKING AWAY THE PERFECT VOICE FOR BOBA FETT BECAUSE OF THE STORY BEING EXPLAINED IN CLONES. Perfect voice taken away.
The 2004 version of Jedi with adding Hayden at the end. Did NOT like that at all. Nor the boring music at the end. I prefer “Lapti Nek” to “Jedi Rocks”.
Of course, George being George in 2005 & 2006 issued out other DVD releases of the original films. And, he will continue to do this over & over again.
What's not so great: HORRIBLE DESIGNED DVD PACKAGE
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love this movie set. Includes: A new hope, The empite strikes back, Return of the Jedi, and a bonus material disc. All movid discs include a commentary. The bonus disk includes: Documentary, featurettes, galleries, and more.

Wow! A great DVD release of one of the greatest film trilogies of all time. George Lucas presents his epic sci-fi saga in stunning widescreen clarity. This movie pack includes the first three Star Wars movies, each with their own DVD, and a fourth disc brimming with special features., including a two-hour long documentary on the making of the Original Trilogy. No Star Wars fan's collection is complete without this set. Go out and get it today.

For those who hate the dislike the special edition stay away from this box set. Even though it ways "includes original" it dose not.
What's great about it: One of the best movies of all time
What's not so great: Expected to get the Original Version not the Special

The original trillogy is just good no matter what. I was, however, dissappointed to see some of the meddling that had been done to these films for this release. The lasers look fake, and they have added extra 'creatures' that were not in the original and detract from the feel of the movies.
What's great about it: It's Star Wars
What's not so great: It's the doctorred version with added effects that don't hold true to the original.
I would recommend this to a friend!

You have to have this collection if you were ever a star wars fan. I have the vhs set and the DVD goes so much further with extra footage.
