While looking to replace my older cooktop because I got new stone countertops, I was very happy to get a quality product in a good price range with a year standard warranty. Where other products were bigger, I was glad to get a few smaller inches to fit in my tiny 875ft. house.

nice easy install until....

Everything was fine until I tried to remove the label. There are labels that are designed to peel off without a residue. This was not one of them. I spent as much time cleaning the label as the whole install.

1) About the true-fit guarantee: not quite.
We wanted to upgrade our cooktop and, after hesitating with a different brand, we decided to go with another GE product because of their size-match guarantee. Well, our previous GE cooktop was slightly rounded around the bottom unlike this cooktop so it did not fit our countertop. What we thought would be a 30 minute install during our children's nap turned into a two-hour drilling and filing nightmare while juggling our young kids who of course wanted to watch what was happening.
2) About the on light: weirdly always on.
There is a light that stays constantly on while the cooktop is connected to electricity (no matter if the burners are hot or not). Which is always, if you install it following the installation instructions. People entering my kitchen keep asking me if I left one of the burners on. Great if you want to pass as a forgetful person in front of your friends!
3) About the color: beware of the glare.
I have a vent and light above this cooktop, but I can hardly see better when I turn the light on because of the glare in the glass surface (my previous cooktop was stainless steel between the burners, I never had this issue).
4) About the performance: just okay.
Yes, it works fine. I am not impressed by the 'power boil' option, it takes just as long as with my previous GE cooktop.

Upgrade for my Kitchen

We kept our old cooktop, when we remodeled our kitchen, it just didn't look done. We decided to replace our old cooktop with this all black electric cooktop range. We are glad we did. It not only looks good, but out performs our last cooktop range!

Good inexpensive drop in range

As drop in range tops go this is a good unit, nothing outstanding. For the three months we have had this it preforms quite well. It heats evenly and does keep a constant temperature.
The reason I did not give five star is that pots and pans as well as corning ware tend to slide on the surface as they heat up. Almost had one slide off. It is worse if something boils over. You also need to be careful as the top tends to scratch easily.
