The knob control is a bad idea.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Our GE Profile microwave convection oven, which was purchased by the previous owner of our condo, performs well as both a microwave and a convection oven, But the control panel layout is a bad idea. Instead of a conventional 10-button number panel, you must make all numerical choices through a rotating knob. Since the knob turns in 15 second and 30 second increments, you can't nuke something for, say, 18 seconds. The design turns out to be a nightmare for my short, legally blind partner, who cannot see the display, and must rely on the unit's few presets for all his cooking needs. I have added colored dots to the most used buttons so he can see what to push.
Another complaint: the microwave's defrost function almost invariably leaves food half frozen, and the extra increments the oven offers never complete the job. I usually have to dial in somewhere from 45 seconds to a mnute and a half at power level 3, check the food, turn it over, and repeat before I can let the food finish defrosting on the counter.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A lifesaver

I bought this in 2009 to help. With my need for another oven during the holidays. Love it, great as a microwave and convection oven. Only drawback, cleaning after turkey splatters since I didn't want to scratch the finish. Still working well with no problems. I do have a service contract in case, but haven't ever needed it. Make sure you vent outside, I've heard that helps with lifespan.

Installed it new 10 years ago and it still works great! The only issue I have with it is that the paint/finish started coming off of the plastic fan cover a few years after we bought it, so the black plastic is showing through. I would absolutely buy this product again!

14 Years and Counting

Bought it in 2008, never had any issues with it. Many useful features in this unit.
Family of four and we use it multiple times every day. Only used the convection oven function a few times and it worked ok, I recall it took longer to cook than a regular oven but did the job.
After 14 years the magnetron seems to be tired as we now need longer times to heat up food. What use to take a minute now needs 1:30 or 1:45.
Gave it four stars as the exhaust fan is very noisy on high and med speeds and it doesn't really do a good job.

We’ve owned this model since 2008 and it has recently failed in 2025. The oven part of this model has provided us with extra baking space. I’m out to purchase another GE Profile microwave/convection.

I probably shouldn't say this because it will jinx me, but I have been using this microwave/convection oven for well over a year now and it works great! I love the fact that I can bake in it as well as use the microwave. Unfortunately it sat in a box for about a year before I started using it, but actually that too worked out ok considering my circumstances! Anyway, I would recommend this appliance to anyone! LOVE IT! Only thing that confuses other people is the dial timer not a keypad...but oh well, it keeps them outta my kitchen!!! LOL

Very disappointed!

Installed in 2007. Stopped working when it was 7 years old, us course no longer under warranty. I guess 7 years is a long time in microwave years? Thank god I had a back up microwave that is now 12 years old and not a GE. This product was overrated and it was not cheap when we bought it. It took too long to preheat in my opinion.
